Just wanted to throw this out there since it can
be easy to forget when you are looking at the
ammount of work coming up this building season.
(If one exists in your area)

Bigger does not mean more profits, in many cases
it can mean less. I have shrunk both of my companies
until I can get them as arganized as I can. I
would rather raise rates and turn work down right
now than to lose my A$$ again by growing without
the proper management. If you have the resources
to grow while properly training, managing and
watching over your bottom line, then and only
then is it time for expansion, especially with
green prospects. People who know and understand
the difference between gross sales and net profit
will understand this post.

Point well made and taken.

We're turning down almost as much work as we are doing because of recruiting difficulties.

Anybody want to move to Hawaii?

We pay well. Jobsites aren't too bad, they're usually close to the beach. Whales and dolphins were jumping at lunchtime the other day.

Tons of work for a long time.

Big Papa,

If you are on the big island I will send you my resume in a heartbeat. Hawaii is the only place my better half would rather live then Cali. We spent two weeks in Hilo last year and pretty much fell in love with the place.

I didn't see any high end AV companies in the yellow pages and my brief internet search. I didn't really look too hard, as I was busy beating on a rental jeep, chillaxin at the beach and drinkin Mehana Red.

Shippin all my stuff and cars might get a little spendy tho.....
I am a trained professional..... Do not attempt this stunt at home.

I'm glad that gave you a chuckle. Sometimes on the internet, true meaning is filtered out of our typing. I never pass up a good oportunity to make fun of someone, especially myself.

For the record, the dolphins and whales comment is true, December through till about April. Some guys on certain jobs actually snorkel at lunchtime if the surf is mellow. Some guys have 'surfer flu.' In the winter, flu passes around more frequently, especially when hi surf advisories are in effect. I haven't figured out the correlation as of yet..

I refuse to feel guilty for living in a beautiful place and using that as a recruiting tool. All's fair in love, war, and recruiting techs:^)

Hey Richie Rich, I sent you an email. We should talk.

My apologies to Mr. Stanley for hijacking this thread. I'll buy you a beer if you ever come out. If any of my guys can't handle Island life, I'll steer em your way first.

As I said before, All's Fair...

Great, how am I supposed to compete with that.
Ok here it goes, If you don't like the sun and beaches filled with half neked women, then how do you feel about ski bunnies? Hawaii NO, Vail Yes.

Vote for Pedro

Probably not if it is over $60 to $70K annually.

I would bet that Mr stanley is in an area where he has to pay big bucks to get anyone on board. If you get someone on the hook, they likley can not buy a house near where your client base is located. They end up commuting 1-2 hours to the shop or 1-2 hours to the jobs and get burned out after a year, two at most. I am in the same boat here, can't buy a house cause it's too expensive so i rent close to shop/jobs to keep my sanity.

I echo the Car audio feelings.
The best guys I have worked with (myself included, I am after all modest) can from a 12 volt background. I started in 12 volt in "76" and moved to home in the early "80's".
Most car guys tend to be clean (cust. generally gets to watch) and quick (it is all about the turns in the shop).

1975 for me, the days of underdash 4 watt Supertuners and Jensen Triaxials.

I've found the car stereo guys to be a mixed bag today. Some are excellent prospects for the jump to CI, some are definitely not.
Carpe diem!
