Hi All,

Has anyone had any experience with these units and if so, any feedback?

[Link: rokulabs.co.uk]

I have a load of cd's and my library is ever growing. I dont really want ti invest in a massive cd changer, but these look like a good solution as it allows me to store all the cd's on my work laptop so I can still listen to them whilst in the office or whilst travelling. But also when I am back home i still have access to all my cd's without having to keep changing out the cd's. I believe that these units also allow the use of IR which means I can still control it from my Marantz RC 5400.

I would be grateful for any feedback even if it means shooting me down!!!

Regards

Mike

I own some of these units myself, and find the only real major downside is the speed (or lack of it) when browsing through about 9000 songs. It takes a good 30 seconds to build its browse list, but you only need to do it once per browse. I would highly recommend going for the larger unit, as the screen can be a little hard to see at times.
The unit has discrete on and off, and the other codes are easy to find (here on remote central ;-) ).
The other thing you might want to check is a recent thread on NAS devices.

Mike,

You have found currently the best network music player! Superb product with excellent support. The sound quality is very good and likeBCM-OZ says, the browser can take ages to load when there are a lot of tracks. Mine takes about 30-50 secs to load about 11000 songs.

The larger M2000 is to be discontinued, so if you can find one, bag it now! They will still support them fully, mind you.

As regards, IR codes; also excellent. I have got a ccf from them with full discrete codes for search, browse, etc. It does require the use of the new beta firmware but it does improve the unit even more. All of the commands you could really do with including power; but they are available here already.

I shall try and post it in the files section soon.

A NAS would be a much better way of keeping your music; uncompressed on the NAS and MP3 on your laptop perhaps?
Sticking to what I'm good at.

The Squeezebox is also worth a look. I can't personally vouch for its speed with a library of songs around the 10,000 mark as the office collection of songs isn't that huge. I do know that it takes about three minutes to set up, supports a really wide range of formats (including Ogg Vorbis), has a Crestron interface that works with its server software available for download, and you can play tetris on it.

Now if only there were a similar device this straightforward for archived DVDs.
