Hello, I have a rather odd setup with my TV, DVD/VCR, Stereo, and computer. I have 60 Channel cable, running through my TV in, which is a coaxal input on my VCR part of the VCR/DVD. I do this because my TV, an RCA has no audio out, only the terrible internal speakers, which I do not like. I use the DVD/VCR remote to change channels on the TV, Which outputs video to the TV and audio to my Stereo, which sounds GREAT. Now my computer is the easy side to it, Which has a Line out with Audio and Video running into line 1 on the VCR. I was wondering if it was possible to find a resonable remote, that when i press the power button it shuts of the TV, VCR, and the Stereo. the VCR isnt required to shut off but it would be nice. Three remotes are way too much, and i do not want to deal with different programmed options like TV, VCR, and Stereo get in the way when I just want to watch tv. Is there a way to shut down my Entertainment Center without a bunch of buttons? Or is there a different way im not thinking about? Im new to this stuff...

MUCH THANKS,

Tyler G

I'd pull the power cord out of the wall.

Mr. Stanley,
the VCR would then unforgivingly forget what time it is.

tjg,
even though you only have a few components, you are facing the same thing that people with six to ten components have.

To begin with, your VCR probably uses the same command to turn it on as to turn it off, so it might be impossible to come up with any button on any kind of remote that will turn it off every time and never turn it on by mistake.

Second, your TV probably has separate commands to turn it on and to turn it off, but these are probably not on the remote that came with the TV. This leaves you needing to read and read this site to get educated about remotes, remote codes, and general ideas of programming, or hire a pro.

And you will need a remote that can learn commands as well as send out macros (a macro such as TV on, DVD PLAY [to turn it on], TV Input 3). Sometimes you will see us respond to questions such as yours with a simple "Hire a pro!" You can do that, or you can keep reading and learning. Check out the remote control forums. I recommend the Pronto New Generation Forum, and Universal Remote Control Forum, and the RTI Forum (those remotes are sold by dealers but are my current favorite, and I have programmed all of these).
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I recommend the cheapest Harmony remote.
