It's not my first choice but it can get the basic job done.

I prefer TEF. The TEF25 from www.Gold-line.com is a pretty incredible system. It does have a steep learning curve to do the more advanced stuff. But, once you understand the capabilities it is tough to beat for the price.

With audio the best tool is the one you can master. A good calibrator can defintiely do more with a lesser instrument than a mediocre calibrator with the best instrument. So, if you can find one at the right price then get it and master it.

Does that mean I can still just clap my hands and listen for reflections???

Only if you can clap at the speakers AND make it back to the seats BEFORE the sound gets there. Should work

Or you could put one hand at the listening position, the other at the speakers, and measure the sound of one hand clapping.

The 295 works very well, too. It's also nice to have the mic multiplexer so you can average out the responses from a couple different mics clustered together.

Gerry LeMay's training (see www.homeacoustics.net) is VERY helpful, even if you think you know a lot about audio already.
