We use both Furman and RGPC, as well as surge X

Like them all, all have a niche in our line up...furman for mid sized racks, RGPC for upper end and surge x for inwall mounting and lighting stuff...use the surge x to mount inwall and protect lighting systems

just dont buy stuff thats is coming soon...RGPC sold us a power bridge..said it was coming in January....well now its maybe in september or so and we did the wrong thing and spec'd it in a job...now its not shipping and we had to improvise with a 400 and APC UPS

but it all worked out fine and still use the RGPC current stuff
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

I use whole house surge supressors which are attached to the electrical panel. A much more cost effective solution than spreading surge protection devices throughout the house and it takes care of all of the electrical appliances (makes it an easier sell). Here's a link.

These guys know what surge protection is all about as they started designing surge protection devices for the equipment at the bottom of broadcast/telecommunications towers. All of their tel/coax surge supressors come with ground wires/lugs, something not found on a lot of other surge protection products.

Then I use power conditioners at each A/V location. I've used mostly the RGPC products, but I've started to look at the Furman products, for certain applications, now that they have better distribution in Canada.

We sell the Furmans and love them. The units are non-self-sacrificing, and on some of their products the coax and telco in/outs are a separate panel (in case you get a surge down either phone or cable, you can replace the panel in a matter of minutes).

FRR, you're doing the right thing with the WHole House Surge Arrestors in the panels, but any good electrical engineer will tell you that those should only be relied upon for 90% of the home protection. The rest is handled locally at the critical electronic devices. It sounds like you are doing that already, I just want to make sure that any DIYer reading here doesn't get hosed by just using a whole house surge arrestor.

I wouldn't intentionaly try to hose someone even though I'm a hoser (not a hoosier), EH. It just wouldn't be right to try to hose someone about stuff like this, EH.

Oh, now that Olympic hockey has started, GO CANADA GO!, because I'm a hoser, EH.
