Hello everyone,

In case you haven't looked recently, there is a "Positions Available" post that may appeal to some of you on our website. We're looking for at least one Regional Technical Trainer to come on board here at Universal Remote. Details of the job can be found here: [Link: universalremote.com]

I'm interested in finding the right person to help us handle our needs in tech training. If you have experience in programming and/or installation, like to travel and can comfortably communicate to large groups of people, I'd like to talk with you. We're developing a number of new training programs and some amazing new products that we need help training people on. Does this sound appealing to you? Send me a note, preferably with a resume, to: [email protected]

I'm cross posting this in the installer lounge and the URC forum.

I like the remote training, but the 1 hour talk about the company is a drag.

Just get to the good stuff.

I sat in a training with the new women from Xantech and now at Universal.

She was great, and kept the class on course.

Jeff,
I'd love to apply for one of the possitions you have shown on your site.
Alas, I'm in Australia. These possitions are exactly the sort job i'd like to be doing.

Got to get out of installing. It's killing me and frankly crushing my spirit, little bit by bit.
What DO you do when you hate what you do, but it's all you know how to do that will generate the sort of income your accustomed to????
The only part of the job i actually enjoy anymore is the programming.
I seem to spend most of my time in the role of "last minute MR. Fixit."

Sorry about the rant

Simon.
I guarantee I'll tell you the truth and I guarantee I'll tell you what you need to know but I can't guarantee that I'll be telling you anything you want to hear.

Actually, Hank seems to rarely take vacations. On the other hand, he did just send me an email that he is doing some trainings in South Florida right now and then heading to Puerto Rico to teach there - That sounds like a vacation to me as I look out the window at the (rapidly melting) two feet of snow that fell this weekend.

Simon, you sound like you really need a vacation. That is how I sound when I'm overdue for a week off. I've dealt with what you are describing a few times over the years and most times it was dealt with effectively by some time off and tropical drinks. One lesson I learned from a previous employer is that paying people too much money will keep them from quiting, even when they are burned out. I just learned at that time to live with less and moved on to something that I enjoyed more. It's always a little scary (ok, a LOT scary) but it gets easier and does wonders for your mind and your health.

avbydesign, that's Marguerita you are talking about. I was just with her in a class in LA a week or two ago and you are correct, she does do a fantastic job of keeping the course and getting the info out. So why am I getting so few people interested in seeing if they can train as well as she does, or wanting to travel to tropical climes like Hank does? Now that I'm out from the retail/install side I am really liking the manufactoring world - I get to sleep in and I don't have to deal with pulling frozen cables in the winter, oven-hot attics in the summer or customers like the type described daily in this forum.

As an aside, I'd be interested if to hear if you plan to support your markets abroad, and offer training in the UK for your European customers.

I sent an email to your tech support/training email address with no reply only a few weeks ago.

Perhaps the distributor over here, Steljes would help with this?
Sticking to what I'm good at.

Carl, I was thinking of someone else.

We have a trainer based here - two of us, actually - but we could probably handle another. I do know that having someone based midway across the country or further West would help. We're open to new ideas in where this person would be located.

Stereoguy, European training is something we need to work on but I don't know where we are with it. Send me a direct email sometime and I'll do what I can to inform you if training there becomes an regular option. I am curious about the email that you sent to tech support - do you still have a copy of it that you could forward to me?

If Hawaii training is needed on a part time basis, I'd be interested.

Of course, all the perks befitting employment with a megacorp would be expected; golf outings, corp jet trips, AMEX black card.

Jeff,

I don't think I have a copy as it was a 'fill in the fields' thing on the 'contact us' page.

I think it was sent to Greg or Lars, but I cannot confirm this.

I don't want to get anyone into trouble; just some training would be nice if available.

Love the product; looking forward to using the MRF-400/500 soon and yet to use a MX3000.
Sticking to what I'm good at.

In the past, the trainings have been performed (as designated by URC) to be both informational regarding the URC line (including upcoming products) and instructional. There's only so much that can be done in three hours, so the choice was made to give out as much information about URC as possible, as well as give out Eric's tips and tricks for the remotes. In addition, Hank's made them fun as well. That's a good mix for the CEDIA-type classes that are catering to those with various levels of knowledge about the products

If you've been using the URC line for awhile, you'd likely want more technical training. I'd like to see an intro class, which would be similar to the current ones given at CEDIA etc, and also classes specific to the MX-3000 (beginner, intermediate and advanced) and MX-850/900/950 with a similar breakdown.

Not to hijack the thread but.. I was in the LA training two weeks ago with you and Marguerita. A few hours well spent, I used the first of the tips received there on a MX3000 install this week. Nice to meet you Jeff..
