Thanks, everybody, and even you, norm --

Interesting parallels, indeed, except for one
thing -- nobody flamed me at all, and even you,
while pointing this out, are being nice about
it.

So what is different about what I'm asking? Something
must have made me feel it was okay, and something
made people offer suggestions instead of flaming.
I'm not defending this, because I see what you
mean, but I am wondering why I got such a positive
response when this is so parallel to newbie or
DIY posts we see here.

Maybe if this were an autosound installation forum,
I would be getting the flames that seem normal!

Anybody have any comments on that twist to this
thread? I think it is really interesting when
we behave differently from the way we think we
would behave.

You have a history here of being helpful.

Why? Cause its for a work VAN. So you can not back over your customers moron child as you leave their house. Plus, its going to be in a filthy, dusty work van. THis isn't going into your where it will be enjoyed by many, and for many years. Plus, with the way things bounce around and spill and throw up and get robbed in a work van, its not worth the risk. I want one for my van too. It gets so lonely when my girlfriend throws me out. I hate firing up the old Watchman, I need a 15 at least.

Why didn't you get flamed? For a few reasons - first, you are a known entity here. You contribute regularly - even if it is chewing out some poor new kid who didn't give any of the pertinent information to be able to help him. You are posting in a custom installer's forum asking for information on upgrading your van to be more safe. This forum isn't dedicated to custom cars - it's custom home theaters. You would be out of line (and flamed) if you were to post this on a forum dedicated to the business of selling and installing backup cameras asking where to get what you need the cheapest and how to do it yourself rather than hiring them to do it for you... Especially if it was your first post in such a forum. That, I believe is the difference between those flamed here and your post.

LOVE your answers, everybody! I can feel the love! And the sarcasm, which would just be evil if it weren't for the love.

Now THERE is an ouch! Actually, I have a Ford E150 cargo van; my last van was a Club Wagon, an E150 with windows. I'm paranoid about driving straight into the driveway because I know I can't see traffic both ways to be able to back out of the driveway. Those of you without windows or cameras, do you ever get confident about backing out of a driveway into traffic?

Plus, it's going to be in a filthy,
dusty work van.

HEY !! WATCH IT ! ! !
Sarcasm gratefully accepted; it is still white, though, even on the inside.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

In my local area, just drove by, roamed the aisles, asked if they had anything, got out of there with a camera and 5" monitor for about $160!
