If a friend of mine puts a plasma over his fireplace what is the issue of looking at the plasma when the fireplace is being used. They are concerned about will the glow cause an issue?

I assume you are wondering if it will hurt their eyes to watch the plasma while the fireplace is on. I would think if they are very close, prolonged watching could cause them to have dry eyes. Have them be sure to be as far back as they would be if they were staring at a campfire.

If they have a real wood fire, though, they might not like watching TV with the fire going. As the fire rises and dies, the background illumination will change, their irises will adjust, and it will seem as the fire gets larger that the plasma gets dimmer. They could minimize this effect by having other lights on in the room, but when what fun is it to watch a fire with the lights on? If they are using a gaslog, this shouldn't be an issue, but dry eyes could be.

If you are wondering about this affecting the plasma, as long as the heat is not directed at the plasma and the flames don't run up in front of the mantel and scorch the front of the plasma, it should be just fine.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

You may also want to research this topic here on the forum. The subject of flat panels and fireplaces has been discussed quite a bit here and you my find all the info you are looking for by reading a few older threads.

Drink less, this should cause less glow.

Oh, you mean glow from the flames while watching the screen. Other than it being a distraction, no.
