Hey every one,
I broke a cardinal sin and let a customer talk me into selling him a new piece of gear he wanted very badly without testing it first.
He has a theater and a media room and we put an Algolith Mosquito in each one last summer. First off he begged me to do it and I did it against my best judgement.
Well 7 months later we have had 3 units in the theater and they all have failed! They last about 2 months then no video. To make matters worse I went there today to put the fourth unit in and he tells me that his media room has no picture on satellite when the satellite resolution is set higher than 480i.
I did some testing and guess what its the Algolith. It will not pass or proccess an HD picture. Nothing but 480i will go throught it.
So now we have had a total of 5 bad units I won't even get into the replacement they sent me and still no working units.
Have any of you had any experience with Algolith and their Mosquitos? Are they as bad as they seem to be from my point of view?
When they work they actually do a pretty good job of Mpeg video noise reduction.
Their customer service was horid in the beginning. (They are in french Canada) and the language barier was tough and they never answer the phone. If you e-mail them their fairly responsive.
I can' take much more of this. Has anyone else used them and what was your experience?

Call Lumagen. Jim Peterson picks up the phone himself, most of the time.
I hope you're billing the client for the service calls. It is reasonable if a client is inviting you to dance on the bleeding edge, that they get to share the pain.

I've had mine since they first released the Mosquito. Many people have bought through AVS and I've heard only 1 or 2 complaints about dead boxes. Could it be lightning strike?

No Lightning we are here in So cal.
The first 2 they said it may have been heat. They both are in a rack and the rack has two 4" exhaust ducts with 400 cfm blowers on them. Plenty of air. But just in case I had our guys run an extra duct above the offending Algolith and that thing is almost cold when the door is shut.
These things are not rocket science to install. I was just hoping to get any feed back if anyone else was having these kinds of problems.
We have replaced all of the cables in and out of the unit, and the last time the power supply but now I am about done with it.
All of the other equipment has been bullet proof just the darn algolith units!
Avophiliac I have heard of lumagen but I did not know they had a product for M-peg motion and compression artifact removal. I thought they made Scalers only? Do you use them and how do you like it?
Thanks everyone
