Hi I work for a company called Systemteq Ltd, who create control systems for 5* hotels. We require an important piece of equipment.
We're looking for a very simple "touchscreen" handheld device, which we can program ourselves with our own user interface, e.g, load the flash memory with our own screen interface.
This device must use **** RF **** ONLY, for transmitting simple control messages to our micro-controller. We've already contacted philips about pronto-pro RU970...but seems it is only IR.
Any ideas on where to ideally purchase a programmable device like this, or how to put one together.
we would be extremely grateful for any help you could supply us with, thanks

Why RF?? RF can be very fickle. There are very few RF control systems out there that work reliably well. Crestron being one of the ones that do perform well, but mucho money.
Hardwire, though not always practical, seems to give the best reliability. If you have this option, I would recommend it highly.
If hardwire is not an option, I would recommend something like Crestron, as it has one of the best performance records out there.

Integra resells the CHAD that can operate RF, with an optional IR repeater that installs near the equipment. Not sure if that will help, but check it out.

Okay, let's try this again -- < >
How many of these do you need? If it is one or two, these could be created out of off-the-shelf items. If you need lots more, we should consider the means to use volume to lower the per-item cost.
When you mention loading the flash memory with your own UI, I get the hint that you may mean something more custom than just, say, programming a Pronto (if that would otherwise fill your need). Do you mean that this must be so custom that you might be doing your own firmware as well as UI in order to issue commands? What is the nature of these commands? Do you need to control something via IR, or RS232 or 422, or what?
Please respond here or email me about this.

you might try the marantz rc9200 it is almost the same at the Pronto with minor differnces and also does RF. But i think you should really look into crestron to meet your needs, since now they have a small handheld touchscreen remote also. Or if you have someone that can program PALM software you can use one of those and a wireless LAN.
