I have a gig that's been requested complete by 3/16 (St. Patrick's party). The client owns a loft and wants to be able to independently stream DVD's to 2 different theater setups, pull up MP3 playlists, view 4 cameras, run an iPORT and also have a wall mounted touch panel to control storage. I don't currently have access to anything Crestron or AMX may offer (and frankly couldn't learn anything lkike that in short order anyways). MCE's don't seem to help due to dual, independent output of DVD's, Escient won't have their DVDM-552 available in time. Any suggestions?

Stereo Receiver for sound
Sources - iPort, 2 DVD-players (Maybe a 400 disc Sony), 4 cameras

Question: How many zones? Are there local stereo receivers in those zones? How many speakers in each zone. Do you want one TP to control the entire system? Do you want feedback via iPort? Do you want the sources to have their video fed to the TP? Do you want to be able to manipulate the iPod via a PC?

The system does not sound too bad, but you need to answer these questions. If you want the logic to control all of these sources intelligently with feedback, you will need Crestron, AMX or Elan. I am sure it can be done with the Xantech SPLCD 6.4v, but you will be limited to feedback. Although the SPLCD v has a video input you can use as a poor mans form of feedback.

Thanks for addressing this, guys. Their are 2 "zones". They are both surround setups. One is a 6.1 Atlantic Tech based and the other will be a 5.1 KEF motorized in-ceilings that we will install. Both have their own A/V rcvrs. The 6.1 is being driven by a an existing Onkyo. The second will be driven by a Marantz SR7500. The 7500 will probably also drive stereo on the balcony. As for the touchpanel, it needs to be able to manipulate playlists, veiw DVD's in storage (I need covers!), and view the 4 cameras. The cameras are all analog (as oppose to IP). Both theaters will have their own remotes (most likely MX3000's with TripleB software to show the DVD collection, another new level of programming for me) and I will most likely run cable for IR. Entire job is retrofit. iPORT will be a local source and hence, feedback doesn't matter. I will absolutely need a GUI via both theaters displays. Hope this helps clarify. I am not dealer direct with ELAN, open distribution?

Hey CEIED, I've spent some time at Xperinet's site and I agree, pretty cool stuff. I dig the open source aspect. I am unsure though as to whether I can drive different DVD's simultaneously to the two surround systems. It appears as if such is the case using "clients" Is this correct?

Disregard. Xperinet is the answer. I can put in the same touchpad we use for automation via rs232. I am stoked! Happy clients are the best kind.

I spent awhile with them over the phone. It's dealer direct and shipping is relatively quick if compared to custom MCE's. Pricing vary as they offer a scaled product but, MIRV begins, for a single location, at about $7500.

Ed,

Went to www.xperiment.com website to check out the MIRV. I have one question. Do you have any problems uploading copy protected dvds into the MIRV? I'm sorry I couldn't understand the legalese in the faq.

Thanks in advance,

Dave T
