I'm getting ready to bite the bullet for a plasma. The wife is on board for the purchase. Looking at 42" because I really am only about 8' away from it. I know you guys like the Fuji's. How about the Toshiba 42HPX95?

TIA,
Scott

Scott,

I recently got one of these panels for one of my golf buddies and it seems to work quite well in his application. He's using a 8300HD cable box from TW and is pretty much satisfied. Only thing he's not thrilled about is the small "twin" pictures when using it in the POP mode (he mistook POP for PIP). But on the plus side, it does display HD content in the POP mode.

Looks good, sounds good (for a pair of cheesy little speakers....lol).

Do Toshiba's use a remote that has a wheel for volume and channel ? I seem to remember doing one last month. I installed it before Comcast installed their box. The wheel in my opion, Not good. Display was okay, but again no HD feed was present yet. Also I believe all the connections are dead center in the back kinda sucks for CI

If it was me I'd save up a few extra bucks and get the elite pro930hd. We've installed a few of the toshiba 42HPX95 and I was not all that impressed with the looks, video quality and remote. Plus the elite comes with detachable speakers so you get a cleaner look.

Panasonic is my favorite plasma on the market. It has recieved phenomenal reviews and has a full line of discrete codes. Its the best bang for the buck! I second tweeterguy's opinion but the price increase may or may not be worth it. Pioneer has the most attractive plasma where the panny's are beatiful displays but I dont care too much for the speaker placement and if you can see underneath it, it resembles a 57' chevy. Good luck

The Fuji is really great as is the Vidikron and Runco. The panansonic, toshiba, etc look like absolute crap next to these, especially on non-HD. Also, they cannot be calibrated accurately and this is a huge part of pic quality. Customer support is non-existant on these and that is also a big deal. Please, just save up a little more and get a real display.

What about LG??? Great product, at a great price. They do not handle motion as well as the Fujitsu and Hitachi's, but at half the price you can't complain. The new models will be coming out in March with an improved contrast level.

Marantz, anyone? Awesome displays and they've just dropped their prices For those of us who weren't part of the Crocs IPO, we might be able to afford one now. Yee haw!

If you dont want to spring for a Fuji how about a NEC? You could also opt for a Hitachi pro panel.

Isnt the MArantz a NEC rewrap?

Pretty sure it is.

Pioneer commercial and later get the Key Digital card? Sometimes I wonder if the Elites are just rebadged consumer models with a longer warranty... & more money.
Just my opinion.

Crap, I though I'd narrowed my choices to 2. Fuji still seems to be collective favorite, but does command the price with it. I'd like it to handle motion well as action movies and xbox are vices of mine. Remote won't be a problem as I have an mx850. Thanks again for all the suggestions. I'll review the other choices again....

I agree with ATOH about the Pioneer consumer and KD video card. It's possible to get the whole kit for $4000. Plain looking, but you don't notice it cause of the AWESOME picture...The only bad thing is that all my friends want to come over to my house to watch TV now!

Toshiba is in bed with Panasonic, btw. They've been using Panasonic panels for a while. Also, Hitachi is 90% owner of Fujitsu panel production, so you know where their panels are coming from....

I personally have always found Pioneer panels to be a bit soft. Maybe it's me, but for some reason, I LOVE the color, but can't warm up to them (pardon the pun). They always seem dull and lifeless to me.

Have you looked at the NEW Samsung panels (the ones at CES 2006)....sweetness! That's the direction I think I'm leaning. 2 years ago, you'd never catch me say Samsung unless it was followed by the word "crap"...nowadays, different story, IMHO.

Just my $.02 worth.

Same with Hundai! But I've had good luck with Samsung, and never thought I'd see the day I'd be working with Samsung... A nice panel for the $$$
