Hello all,
As you know Niles has or is coming out soon with a new multi/source/room system. I went through a priliminary training and saw the system for the first time and it's features etc.. 1 question arised is that the Ipod had to be plugged into the unit via the 21 pin cable provided by Apple but this would be a hassle if the unit (ICS) would be installed in a rack in the basement and the client wanted too dock the Ipod upstairs. I was told the 21 pin cable was restricted by a 2 meter max length.......and if you were to use a Blue tooth transmitter you would loose the feedback feature of the Ipod display on the key-pads,touch-screen and rf remote!
Has anyone come up with a remote wiring (hard-wire) solution ?

Look at Sonance, IW-3, Iw-4 and IW-5.

yes I have seen these as Russound and others make neat stuff but thee 21 pin cable is what gives the "feedback"info on the touch screen, Rf remote a la Bose PCM2 .
The Sonance like others are simply audiofeeds that work via ir for remote control but do not offer feed back or 2 way comunication.

thanks

New info from Niles indicates two CAT5E to Ipod location and you are set.

Had a meeting with Niles New Products guy. The answer is:

Ipod base - Niles 6' ish 30 Pin Cable - Wall Plate with a local room side plug in power supply - 2 cat 5 cables (upto 100 meters) - Wall Plate - Niles 6' ish 30 Pin Cable - GX2

The power supply is to be able to recharge the ipod. The cats can't carry the current so if you want to remote locate the supply you would have to run some 16 gauge or other.

Side news is the Niles Ipod base can also be connected to a compuer with a USB. Flick a switch on the Niles base and sync with Itunes, flip switch back and it goes back on the Niles system.

Ipod Frame Card will also have a composite video out for Ipod Video and Photo slide shows.
Technology is cheap, Time is expensive.
