cust called, says that there is a squeeling noise coming from his 61" samy dlp. It was intermittent (so of course he did not call) but now is constant (so then he calls) He says it sounds like a fan belt on a car that is sticking.

I would guess it's the fan, anyone run into this in the past? Easy fix or should I call a tech (btw...techs in these parts tend to cause more problems then they solve so I would love to take care of it myself.)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

at least 1200 bucks if it is not under warranty. You might try to complain to samsung if it is right out of warranty.

when the color wheels failed, was it just a noice, or did the image go out also.

they can make noise befreo going out for a long time. Bearings or whatever they spin on. Once it goes out it is obvious in the pciture. Very strange color and shading.

I replace samsung color wheels. It is pretty easy, you just have to get to it first. There are a lot of screws (~20) and a few wires to unplug. The first time it will take you maybe 2 hours. It takes me about an hour now after doing some of these. Samsung redesigned the bearings in them so the new ones should last longer.

You can get a service manual and color wheel direct from samsung for about $150 for both depending on model.

Hope this helps.
