Well i got my certification for Wild Blue 2-way Satallite internet on Thursday. I service a few rural areas so I have a ittle bit of demand for this.
I was wondering if there was anybody else here that installs these?
How has this worked out for you?

I do like the fact that they are very critical on the installation. Especally on the grounding. You all have, I'm sure, seen some QUALITY installs from these Sat contractors.

In light of that has any one signed up under the new Direct TV program for CEDIA members. We are thinking about doing this because we are tired of these botched installs by SAT guys. We would rather do it ourselves.

Thanks in advance for your input.

The "new" Cedia program? I attempted to sign up 3 years ago. I was assured at the booth at Cedia that all I had to do was write Cedia across the top, and it would be promplty processed. I also would not be required to have a storefront (which I didn't at the time).

Yeah right. I got it back in the mail with a letter saying I didn't meet all the requirements for not having a storefront? WTF. When I called the guy that I talked to at the show he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about.

I talked to several authorized installers of Dirc's, and they all told me the same thing. Slow pay, and when you finally where to get a check they pulled it because of cancellations. They give poor service, and then charge you back because your customer cancelled?

DirecTV can go pound sand. Professional installation my a**! I have had to do more service calls because of the idiots they send out. We were so frustrated that we started to wire everything for them. At one house we ran 6 coax lines to where the sat dish would go. Perfect view to the sky, no trees etc. Four of those 6 were connected to the jacks where the H/O said he wanted the receivers. The jerk they sent out told the homeowner that we had it on the wrong side of the house. After about 6 hours he left with the equipment and said he would be back. I get a call from a screaming H/O because I f'd up. I schedule to be there when they return. This time the "lead tech" comes with the sat guy. After arguing with me about locatio of dish the agree to attempt where I have the wires. Low and behold it worked!

I could tell you a hundred stories like this. No training, poor interpersonal skills, blame everyone buy yourself. That is the motto of DirecTV installers. Not that I have had better luck, but I now recommend cable.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Ditto on that, we actually recomend cable also. In fact we are working on a deal with BrightHouse cable to become authorized installers for them. Basicly we pick up the boxes and call in activition and handle everything in side the house they just have a guy come to the side of the house to make sure that connection is good to the street. We are just exploring the DTV options due to frustrations (and the people that work for them). :)
