Mmmm, Looks like we might be getting our arm twisted into doing a T&M set-up of the Russound CAV with the 2-gang keypads, as part of a install... Owner is supplying the Russound...
Question: Is this something that can easily be programmed, if you've never done one??? I've tried to take myself out of the loop, and hire a local Russound-Trained guy do it. A friend tells me "ah, man it's so easy, why bother"?

Buy the PC Power Tools from Russound for about $399.00. Has all the neccesary connection cables and software in a carry case.

I got into a similar situation, don't know why, but told a friend I'd program his DA system. Thought it was a Niles piece. Found out it was some A-bus thing. Never touched one before, and not sure I really want to. Not even really sure where to begin. If it requires buying the software kit he can go play with himself, cause I'm not getting into that mess.

I find the installer manual to be a real treat.........

But if you're able to get past that rather poorly written instruction manual, the system CAN be very simple to program.

Of course, like many other systems, the selection of source equipment can cause a lot of issues where none might exist.

It's reasonably easy to program, even without the software but, the software helps a great deal in customizing. If you don't sell Russound thought, it may be hard to justify the cost of software. Good luck.

I've programmed CAV systems for CEDIA shows using just the keypad. Once you understand the logic, I find it easy. First one took two hours, with about one hour of that due to my not having an emitter plugged in (Why doesn't this thing work?).

As always, if you can do it on your bench, you're ahead of the game.

I'm defintely not buying any software. I just said I'd do it as a favor. And I will, it will just be as simple and rudimentary as one can possibly get. I'll probably raid his good beer stash and destroy his garage while I'm there, just for good measure.

Fred, Thanks for your advice...
So, it's similar programming difficulty -wise to like a Niles Keypad system????
I'm not buying any software... sounds more and more like I should have an experienced Russound Guy, do it, and take me out of the loop... :)
Hmmm his Beer stash... well, I quit 2 years ago... maybe he's got some good cigars!!!

I spent the money on the software. I am not happy with it or the lack of updates. JFYI
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

You dont need the software. It can be done from the keypads easily. And their tech support is really strong if you run into problems. You can get the installer manuals from the website.

You could have been done by now and drinking the beers...

I am pretty sure I got the software (no cables) for attending a seminar at CEDIA. I am not sure if they still do that. Seems kind of crazy to charge for your own programming software. Not even the security guys do that.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Yes, you do not need the software for 90% of programming, but fine customization does need it. If you do a number of them, it is worth investing in the software.

I like the software, because I can experiment with different features and I have a permanant copy of customer's systems on file, so if a problem crops up, I can hook up my laptop and reprogram or troubleshoot.

Not too long ago, I had to update one of the UNO keypads with new rev OS software. Cannot do that without the software.

Programming it manually sucks compared with the software.
