Against my better judgement i left a 42 inch Samsung hanging on a job that wasn't completely finished, when we returned i found a scratch about 3/4 inch long on the face where the black border is. The black seems to be on the other side. Is there someway to repair the scratch without replacing the face?

If I understand your question the scratch is on the black border and not on the actual glass. If that is correct I would just try a simple approach first. A Scrippy black marker will hide many little goofs. That is what I use if I get any scratches on my black audio/video racks and no customer has noticed.

If the scratch is on the actual glass I do not have an answer for that. Maybe someone could offer a solution to slightly scratched glass on a panel.

I did have one plasma wall mount for a customer who bought a Panasonic plasma from Costco. He was standing there watching me do everything and I was getting a little perturbed. After the mount was attached to the panel we went to lift the panel to the mount above the fireplace we both saw all these scratches on the screen. You couldn't see them when looking down at the screen but you sure could see them when the light reflected off it. I immediately said that I didn't scratch it because he was watching me the whole time. He said that it must have been scratched when he bought it and he would return it to Costco. Now the first thing I do when install a customers plasma is to check for any scratches.

I am not sure if there is a way that you can buff the glass to remove scratches. Maybe some one can give an answer.

Hope this helps,

Dave T
If you are going to do the job...why not do it the right way?

If you are talking about the glass itself with the black border behind it be careful as it likely is coated and any glass or plastic polish will remove the coating and that will then be visible.

Yeah, it is on the glass although it seems like it is more like some kind of plastic, i don't think glass would scratch like that. You can run your finger over it and feel the scratch.

Well you could try some of the plastic scratch remover products availabe from companies like Griots Garage and see what happens....worse case is you make it more noticeable and you are footing the bill for a new one anyway right ?

I suspect that if it's the glass you have a problem. The only way I'm aware of to remove a scratch from glass is to buff it out. Tooth paste actually works well (but takes time). I doubt that this can be done with plasma glass as it would destroy the coating on it. Let's face it, you aren't even allowed to use window cleaner on plasma glass. I have seen it done and the results weren't pretty( looked like someone went over it with a sander).

Simon.

call your insuarance company and make a claim
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

Or if he's willing take $150.00 of the price. Offer it as an option. By the time youo get the part and go back and install it you at $150.00 or more.
