I just installed a Pioneer 50" Plasma for a customer. (Model no. PDP-5060HD)
The equipment is in a far off closet so i needed to add the optical system cable. (b/c its got one of those damn system control boxes)
My helper put a staple right through the very expensive wire....... Thats right.... a cable staple right through the cable.
Anyone know if this can be correctly spliced and work without flaw? And know of the right tools to do this, ive never had to splice this before.

TIA

Mike

Optical is a pain to splice... really - just replace the cable.

fiber tools will cost about $2k bucks then you need to learn to termoinate fiber...

pony up for new cable and save time and money

Is this fiber thing new? All of the Pioneer plasmas we put in with the media center use a siamese DVI/Proprietary control cable. Neither one is optical that I know of. Was it the skinny one or the fat one?

Key digital makes cable for the Pioneer. The cable wasn't optical but I haven't seen the latest models.

The short (oem) ones should be all over the place (ebay) or the shop floor from all the ones that have been replaced with the KDS 30 footers.

Yeah, you dont want to try to splice the fiber, its not something as easy as a butt splice... They are however just fiber, the converter boxes are the expensive part... You could probably find a local network shop that would cut you a replacement and terminate it for under 200 bucks. Djnorm: the fiber thing is not new, its just a way to extend a pioneer system cable longer than 15meters (dvi limitations)

Its a model # PDA-H05 30 meter optical system cable.... I've never used Pioneer plasmas or the cable before and my boss spec'd it in without doing any research on it..... as usual.

Yea it's optical. Sold by pioneer. It's like a $1400 setup. Should be able to replace just the cable though.

Thanks Mike - the fact that it's a Pioneer product means Somebody in my company knew about it and just never told me... I guess it just never came up... Good to know, though.

If I recall, there are (2) fibers for ??audio both ways??. Do you need both? Just a thought.
