I've had my Toshiba Satellite for over three years, 2 ghz proc, 512meg ram 40 gig HD, 15" screen, still works great, been beat, dusted and banged. One of the best purchases I've ever made. Had 2 Dells, didn't make it. Acer was pretty good but kicked the bucket after 2 years.

I have a 2 year old Toshiba Satellite sitting around somewhere, biggest turd I have ever bought. Spent the better part of 4 months in and out of the repair center in the first year. Funny part was, there was always at least 60% Toshiba's in the shop.

Have a Dell 17" 9300, about a year now with no issues. Couldn't see going back to the small screen

I've used Toshibas while working with previous
employers and had nothing but problems, in 2001
or 2002 there was a class action lawsuit of some
kind against Toshiba for their laptops and the
company I was working at at the time received
some money back for their pain and suffering.

That lawsuit was over the CD drive bay. Basically Toshiba was going to have an interchangable bay on their laptops. The units came with the CD installed and an external bay with the floppy in there. Some guy said he was told that he would be able to use the CD in the external bay. Since he couldn't, he sued. I think my cut would have been like $5.00, after lawyer fees of course.

I have had several Toshibas over the years, and the only problem that I have had was the CD drawer would not stay closed on one. Since that is all they build, and the screens are really nice, Toshiba is my first choice, but Dell would be a close second.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

17" screen would be nice. I suppose the bottom line is if you can get a good deal then go for it. I wish I had the sheet in front of me but the toughbook was ahead of the others for reliability by a large margin. Next was Toshiba and then closely behind that was Dell. I think my next laptop will be a toughbook but things change so fast that we'll just have to see when I'm ready to buy. I just looked at the Dell web site and when I optioned the two out to similar specs the Dell was $1,400 and the Toughbook was $1600. For that difference I'll take the reliability. I run the entire business from the laptop, not just programming so reliability is very important.

No this one had to do with CPU and memory problems, I think we got something around $300 for each laptop directly from Toshiba.

We've been using the Toshibas, mine just melted down last week, screen dimmed, then flickered, then the whole thing quit, couldn't even get it to power up!
Getting a couple repair estimates:(
Our IP guy said... Hmmm might as well just get a new one...(but this bastard was expensive!!!)

Don't think it was a virus issue, unless Wesley sent me a worm!

You cant base anything on the fact that a class action law suit was filed. Lawers love those things. They make a fortune over a settlement and file another one with some other big company.
