Hi all,

Could someone please explain to me what RC68+ is ?

The way it's worded in the Drag Drop documentation seems as if it's some kind of proprietry IR format, which can be used to drive Xantech units.

My understanding is that the codes are not readily available for the likes of Pronto, Harmony or MX users. Can they be harnessed in anyway to drive additional functionality ?

Some background about it would be useful.

Thanks

It is Xantechs universal remote, its more of a programmer as they call it. It will produce up to 14,000 IR codes on various ID's. It comes with overlays that you would use for each device you are controlling...IE you are needing codes for a AC2 power controller you would use overlay B and st the code dials as specified to get the proper IR codes

Here is a link to the manual, [Link: xantech.com]

goto www.Xantech.com and under products and accessories you wil find the pic of it
with this description:
Features:
An expanded version of the RC68 programmer with over 14,000 IR codes.

It contains all the IR codes necessary to operate all the Xantech IR controlled components.

Use to program universal learning devices, such as Xantech remotes and keypads.

IR control code groups are adjustable within many Xantech components.

Requires two AA batteries (not included).

Dimensions: 7 1/8” H x 2 5/8” w x 7/8”D (181mm x 67mm x 23mm)

I have one and use it about 1 time a year, but when I need it it sure is nice to have

to add to what has been said, it is commonly used to execute macros for both IR and RS-232 strings from Xantech devices. basically if you do a fair amount of Xantech programming you need to have the remote and its overlays, and know how to use it.

Thanks for the replies.

So... (my next step)... Can these code's be programmed into my own remote ?

I know they're propietry to Xantech devices, but I would love to have all that bank tracking business going on when firing IR from my remote to my SPLCD touchscreen.

And could I find these codes in these forums ?

It's just that I don't want to shell out on a Xantech remote soley for the purpose of programming my own remote.

I couldn't see any obvious Hex files in the files area of rc.com.

There are Pronto ccfs with most of the Xantech codes if you bothered to look in the files section. You are expected to do a little foot work here.
Xantech has application notes on their website. They also have infrequent webinar training sessions.

Also, the rest of us have "shell[ed] out on a Xantech remote soley for the purpose of programming my own remote.", so why shouldn't you? It's a one-time thing, and then you have it forever in case you buy something else from them...

Shoe, DJ, I agree...but Dark Knight is a DIY'r (not like that is any excuse or anything), so I can see why he would not want to buy the remote...but lends no excuse to his laziness in doing his own footwork to find the answers to his problems.

My god - does this level of victimisation naturally happen when you hit 700+ posts?! I thought we were here to inform and learn!

Anyway end of rant - Thanks for the help guys and yes, I am a DIY'er.

Lazy ? Yes, I guess so, but RC68+ was truly alien to me until you replied!

I hope you can appreciate that Xantech is unknown here in the U.K, so support is very limited.

I've found the files now so I'll have a play around.

Cheers.

Talking about victimization, I think you might have simply said thank you and left it at that. if you are a DIY, and I knew that you were, you should be learning about this site and its resources and using them.
I believe in the "teach a man to fish" theory and pointed you in a direction where you could get it done in about 2 minutes with a broad band connection. It seems to be a common practice by a lot of people who frequent this forum to expect most if not all of the work to be done for them. The pros I understand are just time constrained, but the DIY guys are supposed to be putting in some "sweat equity" to make it happen. I think it is the general "internet attitude" that if I post it somebody else will do the work. Pure laziness. BTW, I would probably have twice as many posts if I wasn't turned off by the apparently lazy people would "ask for help" who have obviously no interest in what we do or how it works, but just saving money off our sweat. Maybe call a pro is the appropriate response. I notice you had the money for the SPLCD panels, perhaps the proper tools to install them or it would be an appropriate purchase. I think I will spend a little more of my limited time in the verified section of IP.
OK, rant off.

You're judging me as a slacker.

Have a look at my other threads on this website. I - like you - have a wealth of knowledge that I've shared with others. I'm of the opinion that any newbie needs that little bit of hand holding to start them off. And I agree, some legwork should be expected from the asking individual.

So I think we're in agreement here.

My one slip up was about the IR codes. I obviously made a mistake and I apologise for wasting your time.

I'm not on this forum to bite the hand that feeds me. I wouldn't have got as far as I am if you guys hadn't helped me out, for which I'm indebted.

Thanks for you help.

Xantech unknown in UK????

Hmmm, we have installed quite a lot of the MRC44/88 multi-room systems as our entry level systems, and use a lot of their plasma/CF friendly type IR receivers, not to mention IR controlled speaker switches, IR controlled relays, bussing strips, etc..

heck, one of our builder customers even asked for it by name....

They are even at all of the UK CEDIA expos.....
What do you mean you wanted it on the other wall - couldn't you have mentioned this when we prewired?
