Is it on the plasma itself, or on the media center? I'm guessing plasma, but was wondering if the media center has a pickup and would that work in lieu of running a wire to the plasma and sticking a flasher on it.

The IR sensor is in the plasma panel not the media center.
Are there any other Pioneer components in your system?
If there are flash them and use their "Control Out" to "Control In" on the media center. Control In disables that components' IR sensor so you want be able to control the plasma panel by aiming a remote at it but I gather that doesn't concern you in your system. Pioneer's Control In/Out ports are for Pioneer control signals only (called SR for System Remote).
They call me the "Thread Killer". Just watch!

Thanks for the quick response. No, there are no other Pioneer products, and I'm running the system with a Universal MX-850/MX-300 combo. Now that I think about it I can flash the plasma directly using the MX-850 and flash the components in the cabinet with the MX-300; problem solved.

The SR port should work with the xantech 794. Never tried it. I use RS-232 on Pioneers on a regular basis. They have a really complete codeset.

I would still want to put a flasher on the plasma; makes for a much more reliable control system. 'No more pointing'
Sticking to what I'm good at.

I believe that the Xantech PMS12 would allow a standard IR signal to be modulated to the 1.125MHz carrier that Pioneer uses and routed through the media box's IR input.

Or... an RTI T2+/RP6 system with their RS-232 module would be able to control it directly at a price point now much beyond the MX850/MRF300 combo.

Sorry Rick, but for the first time I think I have to correct you... The 1.125 MHz thing is way in the past for Pioneer. Jayson had it - Xantech 794-10 Dip switch setting:

0111010001 For Pioneer

Works great - use it on every single plasma we sell...

Hey, I put in a PRO-1130 today with a 850/250 combo... The IR sensor is in the general vicinity of the SR+ logo on the bottom right of the plasma. Id say probably about 3/8 inch towards the corner.

I've just read this thread..

Could anyone tell me the exact difference betwee the 794 and the 797 ?
My local dealer is selling them with various connector interfaces. Does this imply one one controller can be used for one brand type ?

For example, if I want to control a Pionner Plasma media Receiver and a Denon AV receiver would I need two of the Xantech 794 and 797 ?
