3 Questions
1-How good is this product
2-is the component switching better than the hdmi swtching
3-does any one have the codes for this model (4306) the remote is coded rc-1024
Universal does not have it on it's site. Or codes for a denon that wil work?

I just installed one last week. It is a very nice receiver. I do like the HDMI inputs and HDMI upconversion from the other video inputs. Keep in mind that component video is going to be phased out in the next few years for HDCP connections. I have heard that the new HD DVDs will not output HD content via the component outputs.

Another good thing I only had to run one HDMI cable to the projector. Also, it is nice that the projector does not have to switch between HDMI and component inputs.

It does have some features such as the network capabilities and Ipod connections that my customer did not want or will use.

I did have problems setting up a MX-500 to control it. None of the Denon codes seemed to work it. But, it was no problem learning the codes from the Denon remote to the MX-500. Five minutes and it was working great. The Denon remote also had discretes codes for power on and power off on it.

Nice receiver but the MSRP price of $2000 is high and if it was me I would get the next receiver down and spend the money that I saved on upgrading other components.

Hope this helps,

Dave T

agreed the 3806 is great, and if you dont need the hdmi switching and ipod port, the 3806 is the way to go. seems like the whole 06 line up has new code set, kind of annoying, but very easily learned.

The 3806 does have hdmi switching and up conversion from analog to HDMI. It does not have the ipod port and the network capabilities.

I have heard good things about the new AVR-2807. I am going to check my distributors for my next Denon job. I hear is cheaper then the 3806 and has some better features. The Denon website said that it will start being available in March of 06 and the price should be in the $1200.00 range.

what I like about the 4306 is the netowrk port in the rear so I can hook up a PC and the customer can use a server or internet radio. I am going to try the 3806 codes and see if they work. My one beef with denon is their remote. It is a pain to get the codes.
Also the 3806 is a heck of a unit. the amp is weak but it is a good unit.

from analog to HDMI.

The specks and my Denon rep says that the 3806 does not upconvert to HDMI, only to component.

3806 will NOT upconvert to HDMI, just switch it.

The upconvert is only to component, and there is no OSD through HDMI. On the new AVR2807 it will upconvert to HDMI, and will put the OSD through the HDMI out as well.

All of this means that a 3807 is probably not far away. The 2870 retails for 1099.95.

Darn....I went to the Denon website and the specs show that it converts analog to HDMI.

Well, I have an install tomorrow with a 3806 so I will tell you if it does or doesn't.

It says right under the picture of the 3806 on the recievers main page HDMI switching, but under the product spec sheet it states that does indeed up-convert it. I can tell you all the ones we've dealt with, haven't up-converted, unless theres some magical thing to doing. Asked the rep, he told me the same thing. Probably Denon typo, but let us know what you find out.

Page 16 of the manual says it upconverts video to HDMI for monitors capable of 480i or 576i but does not transfer the analog audio.

I installed a 3806 a few months back and it did not upconvert through HDMI. It switches, yes, but no upconversion. There might have been a software update that will allow it to pass a 480i signal through the HDMI. Let us know how the install goes tomorrow. Thanks

Thanks for the help Universal has the codes for the 4306. As for the 3806 I went component. I couldn't get a straigt answer on the hdmi conversion. so I ran 4 lines of cat 5e in the wall to install dvi or what ever later. it was a 20 foot run so better safe than sorry.

Finished that installation of the 3806. You were right about the HDMI upconversion from analog. It does switch and upconvert but it only upconverts to 540p. It will downconvert hdmi 1080i signals to 1080i component.

I installed the 4306 last week and that was a nice receiver that did full hdmi conversion and switching.
