So you do no retail at all Jay? I would like to be in a custom only environment. The retail end of the shop that I work in now is alot of headache, but a $ maker I'm sure or we wouldn't be doing it. I find it much more rewarding to design a solution custom tailored to one client and execute that design, and do it once a month, rather than sell 25 tv's a week and make more money.

Hi guys,

There is plenty of home integration and HT work in Chicago and many companies are short SKILLED staff. In general sales alone are not what is in short supply, but rather the people to execute the sales. I would suggest staying out of anything which is primarily retail based, as the money and work is really in the custom business.

An often overlooked resource for finding companies are the reps for various manufacturers. If you have a manufacturer who's products you know well, or know of a distributor in the area, they usually are aware of who is hiring or not.

As for the comment about being open Saturday, having worked retail in a past life, I can't imagine anyone thinking this a bad thing??? The reason most CEDIA companies aren't open Saturdays is because they are not open retail fronts and get most of their business via referrals. If you are busy all week, who needs to give up their weekends as well!

That is really what I want to get into. I do sales at my shop to but only on a very part time basis. I much prefer to be out in the field solving problems and executing solutions. I do however like to be one the sales floor as it helps me perfect selling techniques and people skills, and commission doesn't hurt either. Another problem with where I work now is if I don't sell the system that I would like to install then it will never happen.
