I have a question in regards to Pioneer/Elite plasma.
I did an install with a PDP-4350HD and used a Channel Plus 4 channel modulator, everything came through the modulated channels fine except the DVD, it would fade in and out.
Another install using a Pioneer Elite Pro-920HD, the customer had a Sony DVD/VCR. I used the RF out for both the DVD and VCR. VCR fine, DVD fade in and out.
Is this the Macrovision protection kicking in?
FYI the first install I had the modulated DVD working fine on 10 other TV's including some LCD flat screens.
Anyone else ever see this?
Thanks,
Dean

The customer with the Elite is 98 years old and I wanted to make it easy for him to access the dvd/vcr(not changing any inputs). The other customer has all his equipment localized(15,000 square foot home) and I had to modulate an Escient fireball 1,2,3 and front door camera.

UMMM? Try a nice universal remote that has been programmed for his/her needs. Doesn't matter the age, but you're not giving your customers the best when you have them purchase a TV like that and then you modulate it. That's just crazy talk.

I have seen modulated DVD video do that, but only when a VCR is used to tune it in. Is this model of Pioneer a television (i.e. not a display, but has its own internal tuner)?

Has anybody ever seen anything other than a VCR do this? It made sense to see a VCR do it, because the video was going through the same circuits that would be used to make a recording of that signal, but...with a TV?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Hey Houston,
Enough Lip and stick to the question.
Both Plasmas are televisions with internal tuners.

....I have to agree with the coments!

..."Why in the world RF" and if you had to use RF - why stiff the customer with an "ELITE" unit...? - seem to me like bad design and poor choice of equipment from the get-go a low res screen 840X480 will outperform a PRO-1000 any day when used with modulated signal....but any how - as to your question!

It is likely you have your DVD set to progressive - " a progressive signal will not sync in most modulators...." - I have seen some weird behaivor out of single disc Toshiba units - I don't recall the model - but it had intermitent composite video when set to progressive from the MENU....

The next time try VIDEO baluns - I have used them effectively in comercial application on cabe runs exceding 1000' on CAT-6

Did your mother drop you as a child?
I didn't request any comments from the peanut gallery.
FYI I did change the Elite install to the component out on DVD to overcome the problem.
The Pioneer install. The changer is set at interlace.
I can not do any retrofiting in this house. Three stories top two stories all accessible walls are covered by floor to ceiling suede, no base or crown, wood and stone flooring.
2 RG-6 and one cat-5 for phone is all there is.

I wasn't giving any lip...just wondering why in the heck you are modulating multiple products to a high definition tv? It just seemed rediculous coming from a custom installer. You seem to be a little upset about our responses when, what you are asking about makes no sense. If you have 1 cat5, for all intents and purposes you can send component over that. Not recommended but can be done. Then you;ll be giving your 98yr old customer what they wanted in the first place......a decent looking picture. If the customer can hit the channel +/- button they can sure hit the "input" button. Good luck with the install.

Houston,
Yes 1 cat-5 I can get perfect component video with a pair of VIDEO baluns. Hey Houston riddle me this, I can't hear anything coming from my component source. Oh I need a second cat-5 to produce audio. Thanks! Please no more from you.

Hope we are not beating a dead horse:

Balanced sender and receiver could send component AND coax digital audio or component video and MONO analog audio.

This might get you out of a jam if you can't get the modulated DVD to function.

note: ST-C5HDTV-600 sends Component video and left /right analogue audio.....have not used this but it may solve some problems. who cares of cost in a 10,000 sq ft + home if it works.......

Dean, with all due respect, these guys are knocking the fact that your first hookup on the Elite was in fact RF. The fact that you eventually did the right thing and used component purely because your prefered (and sub-standard) method wouldn't work does not help your argument.

Yes the effect you describe certainly sounds like macrovision.
