Brandenpro,
Did you modify the CEPro template or are we just
the only two here that read CEPro? Lotsa people
asking for copies of an article they should have
in their stack o mags.

Not available in the UK, so I didn't even know it existed until recently! Looks good though....

I've had a couple of clients like this. Sounds to me this man is sold on Genelec speakers. Are you a dealer? If not, I suggest you call them and become a dealer fast. Sell this guy Genelec and make some $$. I've installed them many times and to tell you the truth, I'd only sell them if every client could offord them.

I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

Oh, yeah... I'm sticking with Genelec, but he wanted to put 1037's and a 1038C in an undersized room... Even the rep told me, and a person @ Genelec told me to use the HT208's accross the front, for optimum performance for this room.

I really respect Genelec, and I respect this client, it's just that I don't want to finish it, and have him say"Whoa!!! sounds too boomy or Heavy!!!..."

I know it isn't my job to save the world from bad sound... but I'm fearful if he didn't like them I get stuck eating $22,000 worth of speakers!!!

It'd be kind of like dropping a supercharged 427 into a Prius... and the guy isn't a very good driver to begin with...

This will work:
Write up a disclaimer, quoting the people at Genelec, by name if possible, with regards to the appropriate model of speaker for this room, and mentioning that your professional opinion is the same. Go on to say that you will be pleased to provide the speakers he has specified, in place of the speakers that you and the speaker manufacturer recommend, but that at THE VERY MOMENT that he decides on that model, he will hand you a check of payment in full, and by signing below he agrees that those speakers will become his sole property at that very moment (even though they have not even been ordered), and that he further agrees that if he does not like the way they sound, his sole recourse to recover the money he spent on them will be to use ebay or some other sales outlet. Furthermore, he agrees never to ask you to take them back. And he will pay and and all court costs, should the need arise, regardless of who wins any suit. (That should aid the "stopped check" syndrome.)

Mr. Stanley, were you referring to what ceied said? It looks like it, but it doesn’t quite sound like it. Please quote just a snippet of the post you are responding to. You did this in another place, too, I think, and I was having a hard time following what you were referring to.

By the way, we had a customer like this a few years ago. Two of us went to do the walk, and neither of us mentioned it afterwards. We just sort of got busy with other things. When we finally talked about it two weeks later, we still couldn't believe that we had made recommendations and he had blithely ignored them all and told us what he wanted, which we did not think would work well, and we told him so.

This guy also had called us to do whole-house audio just after having mods done. The drywall and paint were freshly finished!

At any rate, we learned later that another guy in the area, who just cannot let a deal go, went to work for the guy and lost his shirt on the deal. Couldn't please him at all.

Did I mention he was a lawyer?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Uh... No I wasn't replying to Ceid... I was replying to another guy who was quoting a Cedia Instructor (Eric Brodley)... who said it's not really our job to save the world from bad sound....

This client origionally signed a big contract with us, then dissapeared from our radar for a year and half, then I dredged up his ph#--- and started calling him. By then he had a low-end electrician bad-mouthing Genelec (although he admitted the electrician had never heard of Genelec!!!!!!!)... So I got this client back on board, and now I am really close to asking him to go find ssome dumb-assed trunk-slammin' meth-smokin' idiot!!!

Ernie, DUUUUDEEE!!!!! That is excellent advice!!! I'll do it today, and if that scares him away... Than that's probably a blessing in disguise.

Thanks!

I was asking you to quote from the post that you were replying to as a favor to those of us who can't read your mind when we read your post. It looked fairly obvious that you weren't replying to ceied, but that means that you were replying to one of, what, fifteen other posts?

If you don't get how to quote, drop me a line. It is a little different from "normal" (i.e. Win-ish) word processing, but not hard to do.

Perhaps Eric Bodley said it as well. Eric Johnson is who I was talking about. He was with Niles Audio at the time.
