If the Tweeter form is copyrighted, and it likely
is, the distribution thing is off, I guess. Just
thought of that.

Yeah, they might put you in Tweeter jail! Or maybe just give you 1000 paper cuts as punishment.....

and the same goes for Eric Johnson!

Anyone who's been in this game for more than a few years know's who Eric Johnson is.

He was the trainer for Niles for many years.

No, I'm not worried about jail. I copyright some of the materials I develop, hoping for some level of business respect from others. It's that Golden Rule thing.

Keep it REALLY simple for the walk through... Don't get into equipment or speaker model numbers on the walk through... do that later, otherwise well, just take my advice!:)
Start out where the main system goes. Mark up where all your home runs will go.
Go from room to room, and locate speaker loctations and volume control / keypad locations.
Mark the locations with flouresent orange marking paint (mark speaker locations on the floor, so you don't have to haul around a stepladder to mark the ceiling)
*Don't forget to run cat 5 to each volume control location* (in case they want to upgrade to a keypad..) after the drywall is up.
Just use a legal pad and take general notes one room at a time.
Don't agonize over speaker placement, show up a half hour or so early, and walk the house on your own so you kinda know where the shit goes, and can sound somewhat confident when you re-walk the job with your pal. Kind of a pre-walk through rehearsal...
Do the same for Phone / TV locations / Network locations.
*Also run a cat 5 to each Plasma or Projector location*
When done with the walk through... have your friend look over your notes and initial or sign them off... (keep a copy of this in your file).

NOW... when you get home, you can do a nice word document (room by room description), and start on a second proposal listing suggested speakers and components... Video Displays etc.Rmote eye kits and all that junk.

After you do yoiur pre-wire, take digital photos off any wiring areas of concern, and keep those on file for future access ("Crap the cabinet guy buried my wires")...(The sheetrockers buried my stuff)!

Get all that stuff together (including your walk through notes and digital pics... download some equipment info and pictures off the web.)
Go to your local Office Depot, and put this crap all together in the nicest looking binder they have... (roll the cost of the binder into the install cost!)
Pick up the latest copy of Forbes Home Theater or Audio Video Interiors magazine... something he can thumb through...
Hand all that stuff over to him along with your business card, and take it from there!
** You might also think about...(if he's going to have a dedicated theater room), acoustic wall panels... A lot of guys make their own using Owens Corning #703 panels wrapped with Guilford of Main Fabric... (A way to make a few extra bucks)... and give him a better sounding room.
For my documentation...
I usually just do an Excel page and accross the top list out.:
Speakers /VC or KP/ Ph / TV/ Net/ Sub / Details.............
Then going from the top of the page down I list the rooms... and make columns or boxes that can be checked off.
Well, I hope your not too confused... & Good Luck! Check with the local building department to see if you need to pull a low-voltage permit - otherwise your friend can contact them and tell them he is going to do it himself...(some parts of the country you can get away with this)...
The thing is you DON't want to get busted and fined by the electrical inspector!!!
Wouldn't impress your friend too much!!!
You might also see if the electrician will pull the wire... You supply the wire, and mark it up a bit $$$ and then you don't have to sweat the licensing hassle, and he can probably do it a lot faster than you... but double and triple check his work, because when all is said and done... YOU will be the accountable one.
