What are the good integration friendly CD changers?

I dont need DVd, only CD. The sony 777 would be overkill for that wouldnt it?

TIA

Sorry, should have been clearer. Im looking for something for a D/A system, so more along the lines of a 100 disc changer. Just dont need DVD, nor the 400 disc capacity.

Hard drive based system. Escient or ReQuest or similar then. Who wants to guess at which CD they're listening to out of 100?

I have a client that has a 200 disc Pioneer changer from 1910 (alright, 1990) that he'd probably sell you! :-)

I may be leaning the Escient way, just want an alternative to use w macros, as I do no have a lot of video displays (for the U/I) in the job in question.

Try a Sony (ouch, it hurt to say that) CX355 but really, after the time, effort etc, for control, is it worth it?

I have had/have this same probem, but I am thinking of trying a Roku HD1000 or even the SoundBridge for this kind of thing. After all, the client wants to compromise, not me.
Sticking to what I'm good at.

I think every CD player out there is a D/A system. The discs are all digitally encoded, and the sound in the air is analog, so they are all D/A.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I thought the same thing Ernie did. I think it was D/A versus D A that threw us off.

anyway...Frank I would suggest looking at a hard drive based solution, it will be a better option in the long run. I have installed the escient pieces, but Alan uses Request and has said good things about them, I will say that Request is on the ball when it comes to a backup solution and removable hard drive, which escient does not have, they suggested when I inquired about my concerns over having a backup so that when the drive dies, the client does not loose all of their music, they suggested selling the client an external hard drive, attached to their PC, and use it as a back up...not a very viable solution in my opinion, but none the less escient is a good product, with alot of good features and options.

as far as the whole mega CD changer thing, it is lower cost, but a much greater headache to manage...when they took a disc out for the car, did they put it back in the correct spot (invision a touch panel w/ icons for each disc, and the client selects Allison Krauss, and gets their kids Audioslave)...plus slow change times...and so on.

Its funny Frank, just yesterday I met with an older couple and am specking an adagio system with a CD changer. They cant grasp the music server concept and to be honest, after using the Escient, Request (direct dealer) and C4 servers, I have some concerns. How are they going to edit song info that the gracenote program doesn't recognize? How are they going to create playlists by using the keypads and LCD controllers? We young guys (60 and less) take these things for granted every day that we can just plug a keyboard into it or use our computers on the network to do this work. Do I really want to teach my 65 year old clients how to do this? Do I want to teach my 65 year old clients who only understand email how to use Windoze Explorer and Network Neighborhood? Nope. They want to keep a list of what each CD is and be able to go directly to that CD when they want to listen to it. And believe me, its not a money issue with them.

So as much as I love the concept of the music server, its just not for everyone.

This is exactly the type Im working with. Its for my Dad who will be 66 soon. So Im trying to keep it as simple as possible. I'd obviously prefer the Escient/Request route myself. For financial reasons, and not wanting to get to "techy", I may have to go the CD changer route.

I understand it will be kludgy w a CD changer and no feedback, then again thats how it was done not too long ago before media servers existed, right?

Sonos,

The new zone player is pretty sweet. Saw it at CES. No built in amp brings costs down. Should ship sometime in the next 5 years:) Really though, its only like 4" X 3" you can fit 12 of them in 1 rack space!!! They also added toslink and digi coax outs, and has 2 port switch. No integration still though.
