Usually, the picutre gets really dim right before the bulb blows.

I'd be shocked if Sim2 claimed more than a 750-1000 hour bulb life on that set. Bulb tech was no where near wher eit is today back when that set came out. Bulbs typically discolored over time. I assume you've turned up the COntrast/Brightness leveles to compensate somewhat?

The original TransVision PJ was rated for 2K hours, but yours is not the first I had heard of that needed replacement a lot earlier.

It's probably not Dwin's fault, it's probably the lamp supplier. I know that InFocus went through a bad batch of lamps a few years ago as well...

lamp life is hard to predict on FPs. I have one customer who routinely gets 2000 hours on bulbs for his TV3 but he runs his PJ for 5-8 hours at a time. Turning them off and on is what limits life - to a large degree.

Personally I would consider a different PJ than the TV4. Not a very good value in these days of falling prices. Dark Chip 2 for $6500? I have one in my showroom that I'd like to get rid of. It's going to be a hard sell though, with DC3 machines out there for less than $5k now - and more coming out soon. And the TV4 is a bit noisy, and should have vertical lense shift for that money. Please don't give me the argument that that outdated sorry excuse of a scaler is a $3500 value because there are scalers out there for $1000-1500 that will run circles around it.

Just my .02. I am a Dwin dealer but if they don't come out with a 1920x1080 soon (like by April), there number will be up with me.

I plan on starting a thread with my evaluation results on the new Mits 3000 (retails for $3K). Pretty damn good PJ for the money. Looks every bit as good as the TV4, extremely quiet.

Well at least we are now in a day when we can use our bulbs until the "expire". Years ago, I used to sell a lot of JVC G-10; G-11 & G-15s DILAs - with the Xenon bulbs. They were very high pressure and the word was, that you must replace them after 1000 hours becasue when they go, they explode and can make a mess of everything inside the PJ.
I never had the guts to use the bulbs past the 1000 hour mark.
