Hi guys!
I'm a yamaha dealer, but I'm a bit frustrated with thier current line of DVD changers and players. Only the top two models really have the features we need, at too high a price for many of our installations.
Here is what I would like to find in a DVD Changer:
Discrete Power discrete disc access disk skip + and - non toggle bit ir control rear ir jack rs-232 (2 way)
Divx, SACD, DVD audio would be nice, but we have those covered if we can't get them in a cheaper changer.
I need to get as many of these features as possible for 3-500 retail.
Any ideas would be appreciated!

In that price range I don't think you are going to find anything with RS-232 control.

I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

All the Integra DVDs have those features.

I agree with flcusat at that price point, you wont find anything with rs232. How big of a changer are you looking for? Sony makes some 400 disc cd/dvd changers at 400-900 range. I am not sure of the higher priced one, but the lower cost one, which is a model DVP-CX995V is a great buy, but I am not sure about Divx playback capabilities.

I don't think that the DVP-CX995V has RS232 . The CX777ES does, but it is soon to be replaced by a new model (upconverts, HDMI etc. ). They can still be found though for about $600 . In general, the ES models are all RS232 .

The Integras are quite affordable: DPC-7.5 - $350 DPC-8.5 - $700

But with Integra you are limited to either single disc or 6 disc changers. That said they have discrete IR, 1/8 mini IR jack in the rear and bidirectional serial control.
If you want a larger changer only the Sony fits the bill.
I believe the 7.5 6 disc changer is $450 while the 5.6 single disc is $350.

Thanks for the info.
232 is not neccesary for this price point, but discrete disc select, and power are, and hopefully rear ir.
I'm only looking for a 5 - 6 disc changer.
We don't currently want to make the integra commitment, since we would not always want to sell thier receivers, and we're too small at this point to support multiple receiver lines.
Does Onkyo have approx the same specs as integra on thier changers ?
Is anyone is the seattle area maybe willing to supply us with integra changers?
Thanks.

Hi, One word denon. Even though there build quality isn't what it used to be they are more reliable & easier to program than any other brand Matt

O.T. sort of. If I can toss my two cents in. We have dropped changers all together people can't find the disc they are looking for. They want to be able to watch when someone else is watching. They want to see the disc somewhere else and don't put it back. They put them back in the wrong slot.
We have gone to single play units and have a lot less complaining about the above things. We are staying with single players and after a quick list of they why nots... every customer who was sure they wanted a multi player is now much happier with a single.
So untill we find a server solution like Experinet or Kalidescope that our customers feel comfortabnle paying for... welll its single disc players here...
Before we switched I found the sony pretty controlable.
P.S. Not interested in outboard controlers that give you an interface. Still only one thing can be played at a time. Worse yet they rely on your not playing the movie anywhere else.

Denon has solid control, descrete commands and ir jacks. Maybe i'm missing something but why do you need descrete power commands and rs232?

well by discrete power, I mean at least "on" with the play command, and a discrete off. It just speeds up macros and makes the system more reliable to not have to rely on multiple steps and delays to turn a device off.
For rs-232, it's always nice to get real feedback from the device, no matter how simple the device is. We always tend to use it eventually.
We, also, will not use large changers. 5 or 6 disc is the most we will provide unless the customer understands the need for an interface to thier library. We also are considering xperinet, but we only do about 2 jobs a year that I think would currently support it. Once we grow a bit more, I think we'll jump right in.

Onkyo doesn't do the RS-232 or rear IR in - that's what makes Integra an installer's line. Plus, a 3 year warranty on a DVD? Not bad! The DPC7.5 with all you are asking for at $350 retail is a very good value.

There are distributors for the Integra line in Seattle. Whether or not they will sell you product is another question. Speaker Lab in Seattle is currently the Integra dealer for the Seattle area. There is another dealer in Evertt but I can't remember the company name at the moment. I'm not sure who the distributor is though.
