Everyone is actually moving away from dipoles, while THX still promotes Dipoles with close nit back surrounds, THX actually had a big part in the development of the new Dolby digital EX 7.1 format which calls for direct radiators all the way around and separated back surrounds

Could also consider direct-radiating in-walls with directional adjustments/swivel tweeters. They've helped me in 'less-than-optimal' situations before. SpeakerCraft AIM/Niles 8000 series, etc...

I'd use SpeakerCraft Aims,, or any decent "monopole" - (jeesh) - speaker that enables you to tweak the dispersion angle a bit.... make sure you are squirting the tweeter upwards...
