I have successfully used the Denon AVR-685/785/885/985s in 4 Ohm application…with no glitches and minimum added heat generation….

**Using a regular voltmeter measure the DCR (Re) of the speaker including the crossover – (note this is not the impedance or Z of the system) but is an easy way to see where you are at – Utilizing 1 or 2 Ohm 25 watt resisters inline (series) on the positive lead may alleviate the situation but is not a magic wand….
