I currently have my Klipsch center channel (rc-35) on top of my SONY rptv. With the TV having a plastic housing can the weight of the center channel have any effect on the chassis over time as far as distorting it? The only reason I ask is because I believe I can see a dip where the center channel sits. I havent strung a line across to see if my eyes are telling the truth. What do the majority of people here think about placing center channels on top of TV's?

I typically reinforce the tops of my televisions with two pieces of 3/4" MDF glued together and screwed directly into the studs behind the TV. If it still sags, I'll reach for the angle iron, 1/4" lags and aircraft cable to suspend it from the ceiling.

Nah, I'm just kidding. I've never heard of a center speaker causing a problem, and it's pretty common for plastic RPTV cabinets to be slightly bent right out of the box.

Damn you Ahem you had me going. I was thinking am I a total hack? I've never done anything like that for a center channel. Maybe I sell crap speakers. Maybe I should sell speakers that weigh 300 pounds.
For the dinky little 30 pound speakers Omni Mount makes a nice little shelf MSRP $35.00. Great for DLPs that are 4 or 5 inches deep on the top.
It's such a fine line between stupid, and clever.

The RC35 weighs as much as your tower speakers! I would build a shelf using some scrap wood (Pine, MDF etc...something other than cheap ply). Make it to fit the TV and the Center channel. I have not had any luck with the Omnimount center channel shelf on the Samsung DLPs and Sony LCD's. It works the best on the CRT sets.

You should try using the donuts from your hole saw when you cut holes in cabinets...
