hey guys, first off thanks, ive been reading the forum for years never got around to posting, but now im signed up and ready to go... anyway, those of you that use new RTI in wall touchscreen and lcd/kp, just wanted to know if you had issues controlling multiroom systems - mainly elan, but maybe b and k too. i really like elan for everything, EXCEPT the via, it just seems soo dated, the resolution is terrible, it always bothers me. and the "motifs" are not quite up to par. i thnk most installers like to use their own graphics and import into the screen. the rti stuff seems like it would be a great solution.

im assuming any multi room system that is IR controllable will work fine with their product. also rs232 control would be even better, but i dont see a way that multiple keypads/touchscreens can control the same device, example 5 touchscreens and 3 lcd keypads, all controlling a system 12 elan chassis. RS232 is not 2 way correct? no way to pull meta tags from sound server/xm/ipod?

any input would be great

thanks
ian

I used a T2+ to run a three zone outdoor system hooked to a B&K. Worked flawlessly. The only issue (if you can call it that) was that the code sets in the RTI software were a different set than were in my Niles software, so I had to double up on everything to get it to work with both of my control systems (inside and outside). Thank the B&K engineers for their flexible design. You can make that thing do anything when you know how.

so, you had rti remote to control out door zones and niles keypads control in door. i didnt think niles made any keypads that are stand alone? or did you use the intellacontrol to control multiple zones on the b and k?

The Intellicontrol. (but they do make the Intellipad, too.)

The Vias or an elaborate Crestron or AMX solution will be the only way to get 2-way metadata feedback from all sources on this setup.

The RTI systems will pull the metadata of an Escient or Request server through the webserver, but there is not an iPod or XM interface at this time with metadata.

The upcoming RTI processor will be backward compatible with the T-3 remote, as well as the K-4 keypad you are considering (as well as other current RTI products)...

In the meantime, you could always create a bulletproof 1-way serial and IR control solution with those same devices and the current RP-6 controller.

Just a thought.

I have a couple jobs with Z-series and HD-series multi-zone systems from Elan which use RTI T-2 remotes and Sonance K-2 keypads (which were designed for Sonance by RTI and have a distinct family resemblance to the T-2). There are RP-6 contrtollers in these systems for IR routing, macros, status sensing, etc.

This was prior to the System 12, and a MAJOR upgrade from the kludgey Z-100/150 or Z-200/250 keypads from Elan.
