I have recently had two clients with equipment already purchased at Best Buy. Of the Insignia brand. Might as well be the "Incognito" brand, because no remotes have "Insignia" as a brand. Here at remotecentral, there are no Insignia files in the Pronto, ProntoNG, MX3000, or RTI T2 file section.
Today's product was a combo DVD/AV Receiver, which looked a lot like a Philips (I think) combo I saw almost a year ago, but none of the Philips codes worked.
I bought a Best Buy TV for a friend a while ago, as it was the cheapest thing going, and the salesperson had no clue who to take it to if it needed service past the initial warranty period. "To the manufacturer," he says. "Who is that?" I ask. "I don't know," he says; "I think it is in the paperwork."
Any clues?

Yep, that's what it is. Do a Google on "Best Buy Insignia".

I did that before checking the files sections for IR files. All I got were Best Buy and Insignia. That was what I already knew.
Who makes it? I hate to just return to the question I asked, but there it is.

The product I dealt with today is made by NXT, in England, who specializes in flat panel speakers. I have dispatched an email trying to make them aware of how welcome they will be if they supply information on their IR codes. Hopefully the email does not just go to a clerk somewhere....

Each model of Insignia is contracted out, not all are contracted to same company. It is Best Buy's way of cutting out the middleman. You are going to find these are mostly made in China.

Indeed.
I got an email from NXT telling me that they are technology developers and do not make product, so they have not information on the IR codes for anything. This despite "NXT" being on the combo DVD/AV Receiver I worked with the other day.
My suggestion, then, is to immediately inform customers with Insignia products that, as these are a house brand, not much information has been published on their control. I wouldn't want that warning to sound like sour grapes, just a frank acknowledgement that their TVs, for instance, might not have discrete codes because the actual manufacturer is buried and Best Buy won't tell.

Even I have issues getting details on IR codes for Insignia displays. As far as I can tell, the codes aren't new or unique. I have been able to find existing codes that work perfectly for some models using a Comcast/Motorola DVR remote. At least one of the pre-programmed code sets works for one of the larger Insignia LCDs. Also, the UR2-Pro key fob IR remote control that Universal has been handing out at shows will also control basic functions of the same LCD. Learning codes may be the only way to get advanced functions for now.
I know this isn't much to go on, but I'm still working on it. I will post what I can, as soon as I can. And if I can convince anyone to use discrete codes for their displays, I will.

After having listened to a couple insignia products, my question is...
Why do you care? The stuff I heard was almost as good as Bose!

You need to do the Bose warmup before they sound as good as Bose...
Slam your forehead into a window sill or door frame a few dozen times as hard as you can hurl yourself forward into the chosen obstacle.
Once your ears start ringing or buzzing and/or your vision is a little blurry with a black & white tunnel vision effect that includes sparkling stars across your entire peripheral vision, then you are ready to truly experience Bose sound in it's full splendor...

What scientists take to be a correct result is one obtained with a properly functioning experimental apparatus. But a good experimental apparatus is simply one that gives correct results. |

I have also heard that LG was supplying Insignia and I will further say that LG is a far cry from high quality product.
