Does anyone have any suggestions as to which if these two are a better for audio?

Is there a clear choice for optimum sound quality?

This question belongs in the audiophile thread :)
Here is what I know about it...
An optical cable transmits the signal as pulses of light, while a coaxial passes the signal as pulses of electricity.
I can't hear a difference, but then again, I'm not an audiophile kind of guy. :)

I would tend to think that the optical would be a better choice if distance played a role.. Only speculating though..

I've heard that coax is better simply because it's a more reliable connection. Beyond that, I think they are the same.
How hard can this be?

We use coax because of the better connection. In the audiophile world I have heard that toslink is a
brighter and a more digital sound than coax.

This discussion devolves into name calling in other threads, so it is worth a search through the fora.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Never busted the end of a coax moving equipment around, wish I could say that about optical. 3 broken optical cables in th elast month, yeah I know be, be more careful.

As far as sound, never heard one bit of difference between the 2 of them.

an audio file would never use a digital signal...they only play records, no digital connection for that

my 2 cents

Related question, indirectly......

Can you make your own custom length Tos-link cables?
No, I wont install your plasma with an orange extension cord hanging down the wall.

I agree, I've heard the same thing; also concur that the connections are more foolproof on coax.

OTOH, a TOSLink connection could be proof against potential ground/hum issues (if there weren't any other L/V connections between the two pieces of gear, natch).

Hey there's a whole lot of discussion about tos links in the home theater forum
In Nov. I posted info about the tos link flip cover, on the unit, being a problem:
