So How is it? What's the current consensus? There has to be a few of you putting thise in now and then...

Do you avoid them?

Will you get one too some day?

I ask now because somebody I know with more money than I is going to their glorious place in Mexico to get away from their glorious home on major anchorage in Mettawa and they leave on the 16th.

Ring... Ring... "Hello Jason... Blah blah.. Sling Box... Can It be done this fast? Do they work ..."

So it goes...

Oh. And to top it off. He has his high speed through satellite... Dish Network he said.

The quick question is.... Is it a go in... Bring some supplies and a Sling Box and in half a day I'll be on my way home never to hear another question about it again?

(Assuming all the equipment is in the same location)

1. What is a Slingbox?
2. Dish Network does not have HS internet anywhere, let alone in Mexico.
3. I love my Jetrack too!

I haven't installed any for anyone else, but I have used one and it was easy to install and test. Basically, it allows you to access your Tivo or TV tuner from anywhere in the world via a high speed internet connection. Pretty cool device if you travel a lot.

We put one in a while back. Pretty easy except his network guy had to come and make a few changes to the router for port forwarding etc. Picture was ok, very easy to install, pretty easy to set-up, limited IR support. You can only use IR files that are in thier database. At the time we did it, the Moxi codes were not in there. The guys at SlingMedia can add codes for you to the next firmware version if you can send them the jp1 format.
All in all nice peice for 250. I wouldn't own one, but that is just me.

I have one. I recently used it for the kids while traveling so they could watch their shows off one of our DirectTivos whenever and wherever! If I had a Verizon EDO card for my laptop they could probably watch tivo and\or live TV in the car-- which, while many of you may think is ridicuous, those of us with little kids do appreciate.

It is extremely simple to hook up. Although only my DirectTIvo is hooked up, I believe you can hook up 3 devices-- S video, composite and RF and switch between the 3. Theoretically you can take S vid from your 400 DVD changer and take your library with you!

Picture quality is acceptable, certainly not great, but good enough. Remember it turns any pc hooked up to the internet (high speed) a TV-- I've even used it in my house instead of PIP to keep an eye on one Game while wathcing another on the big screen!
