I feel sorry for all of you who still have to go to CES. I'm just excited that Cedia is going to be in Denver next year.

Mike,

I feel for you. If I weren't able to share a room with a relative that works for a major company, I'd be in the same boat.

The prices for rooms has gone up an unbelievable amount in the last couple of years due to COMDEX folding. Now you have the CES crowd, the AVN crowd (and the porn crowd IS growing) and the old COMDEX crowd all at the same time. It's just too many people all at once. Shoot, even the dumps are commanding hig prices

Another bad thing? You can figure on a one hour, or longer line for taxi service at the airport as well.

What I'd recommend is trying to rent a car (may be tough this late in the game) with airport pick-up, and then staying somewhere way off the beaten path. Drive in each day, park at one of the casino's on the shuttle list, and you're set. Best to go with valet parking at a casino too. Might be more expensive, but it's a LOT faster and easier.

Win anything above about 5k and they'll GIVE you a free room. After all, even with CES going on, this is still Vegas, and it's still about gambling.....

Last year we had no trouble finding a Limo to take us from the airport to the hotel within 5 minutes of stepping out of baggage claim. The limo to Ceasars was $100 plus tip, not bad for 5 people.

Good thing to do. And as long as you've got a group that's going to the same place, it works.

Me? I had a guy standing in the baggage claim area with a sign that bore my name...Private limo.....A great freebie.....

Rent a big SUV with chrome wheels the size of manhole covers, get a VIP pass for Ra, Studio 54, and Ghost Bar, pick up some desperate hotwives at the any casino lounge on Fremont who are ready to abandon their moron husbands who are deadlocked in some day-long $100 texas hold'em tourney, and then HIT THE STRIP, BABY!!...

You don't need a room if you do not sleep!!

9AM, hit the coin showers and a get a quick change of clothes at the truck stop at the city limits, refill your 98 oz. mega-mug of coffee, and head to the show floor!!

If you get tired, say you are a curious audiophile and curl up behind a nice warm monoblock in the private demo suites at Alexis Park.

There is an entirely different plan for Indy...

Dec 31 thru Jan 10.
Setup/Tear Down.
And I cant see the show.
I envy all of you!
Staying at the Orleans, off the strip but a nice place with good food.
For you automation guys, stop by our Car Booth in the North Hall.
This year we have a 91 Civic that we removed the entire drive train, steering and brake system.
The car is now completely electric.
It is controlled by the Wacki NX processor using a Sony PSP as the GUI.
We have taken this even further than our Crestron controlled Bug a couple of years ago.

Brent, you are doing this World an incredible service...

IMO, if we get some of those top car audio competition geniuses into tinkering on electric cars as a new hobby, we will have major improvements coming in by leaps and bounds over the snail's pace of Detroit...

To be honest.
it all started as a way to easly move the car in/out of the show floor (they bitch about the fuel). From there the automation can as a natural.

We're going out on Tuesday the 3rd, and returning on Monday the 9th. Extra few days for vacation (who goes to the show on Sunday, anyway?) As for the cost, we consider it a perk for a years's worth of 'job well done'. CEDIA is for learning about our industry. CES is for goofing off with a valid expense line :)

Staying at the Monte Carlo again this year. Nice hotel for the price, but yeah, it's getting out of control. Pretty soon, the only people going are going to be booth people.

See ya at Cheetahs!

"but yeah, it's getting out of control. Pretty soon, the only people going are going to be booth people."

You think its tough. We have two booths (60/90, 25/40), 35 people (rooms/food/travel) staying anywhere from 5/14 days. Oh, and of course the requiste union labor. CEDIA is definitly the better bargin.

P.S. I will not even get to see the show (except between the booth/bathroom).

P.P.S. I would really like to meet the forum folks, please stop by (Home stuff, South Hall 1/21214, my booth), (Car stuff, North Hall/3406).
