I have a situation where I need to have discrete control over an InFocus LP-820 projector in a boardroom. The LP-820 doesn't have discrete IR for ON/OFF so I'm planning to use a Xantech IR to RS-232 converter. Has anyone tried this combination & with what results?

Have used many times with NEC, Infocus, and others. Note that you still have to wait for cool down period before turning back on.

I believe the Infocus stuff has a 20 second IR Lockout, so put in a long delay, but controlling it via RS232 should not be a problem.

Thanks for the replies.

TouchCommander, I understand about not being able to turn on during cool down period. I don't have a problem with that.

vmpower44, please expand on 20 second IR lockout & long delay.

Regards

When you first turn on the project, they have a 20 second period in which you cannot send an IR command to the unit. I don't know if that applies to any RS232 commands. If so, you will have to add a 20 second delay after the Power on command.

I finished the install with the Infocus LP-820 and the Xantech IRS232A. Everything works great. I now have discrete control over all the electronics on this project.
Using a Pronto TSU-7500 and RFX-6500.

Question:

I am attempting a very similar scenario. . .
Using a Xantech IRS232A to control a Proxima C460 via RS232.

The room is controlled with a Marantz 9500 & RX-77 RF Extender.

1st problem, the projector does not respond to the Xantech at all. ( I have confirmed that the correct ASCII strings are being sent & have tried the "test" feature in the Dragon Drop software)

2nd problem, the RX-77 does not seem to be talking to the IRS232A.
The RX-77 is receiving the signal from the remote (LED lights indicate this), but then there is no response from the IRS232A (LED's show no activity)

Any ideas and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

RX-77 / LI-900 are a known PITA to integrate with Xantech. Search this forum for many previous posts regarding this.

tbilliet,

When you use the "test" feature in Dragon Drop, does the projector respond?

tbilliet,

Did you program the IRS232a to the following settings to communicate with the Proxima ?

Bits per second: 19,200
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: None

Are you using a null modem cable between the Xantech irs232a and the proxima?

Command Format:
All commands consist of 3 alpha characters followed by a request, all
enclosed in parentheses.
