I am currently using a Kenwood VR-5900 in a dual room dual source environment. I would like to be able to use my x-box in room b. I have run cat 5 wire through the walls into the second room. The X-Box uses only 5 wires from the controller to the system unit. I would like to attach some sort of plug on both ends of the cat 5 which would enable me to plug one end into the system unit and one end into the controller.(Like a 100 foot extension cable) This would let me play the X-box in room b. I have tried using cat 5 "QuickPort" connectors, but some of the wires coming from the controller are to thick and some are to thin. (gauge).
Does anyone have a suggestion of another connector I could use???

Thanks,
Danny

What about wireless ir controllers and an IR repeater system. If you go that route you would not be limited to sitting in one spot in room b. I have never tried hard wiring controllers from one room to another, so I dont know if it would work at all. I have put a reapeter system in for a customer so that they can shut off the box( in that case, a PS1) when they wanted to limit the time spent by the children playing games. Good Luck with the hard wire option, if you get it to work let us all know.

There are currently no wireless controllers available for an X-Box. Do you think signals would be greatly affected with a cable run of 75ft +/-??

The way to rig it with what you already have is to buy an x-box controller extension cable, cut it in half, solder the conductors on both sides, shrink tube the solder connections and give it a whirl. The gauge of the wire might be important and if it is, the distance will be even more of an issue. You might try doubling up the conductors of the C5 where applicable - Best of luck.

Just curious if anyone had success in extending X-Box controllers. If so, what type of wire was used and how long were the runs? Thanks in advance.

Haven't done it, but do you understand how to use the pairs of CAT5 to minimize interference? That is one potential problem.

The other potential problem is distortion of the waveforms that come out of the controller due to the added capacitance of the added cable. To make this work if it does not, you will need an oscilloscope which you can run without its ground being common with your system and some information.

Email me if you try this and it does not work. i've done the scope thing with an IR emitter that I removed from a remote control and placed 75 feet away. The waveform got messed up but I was able to correct it.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
