Would appreciate info on your 5.1 receiver choices in a shallow custom cabinet (380 mm - 15 " deep). The built-in cabinet butts up to an exterior wall in a log home, so a structural mod isn't a viable option in the rear; the cabinetry extends the length of a long room, flush with a large fireplace, so a frontal buildout wouldn't look right. I tried a Sharp 1 bit receiver (SD-PX2) I had, customer rejected, probably based on an Internert review vs. his ear. Is Sherwood-Newcastle my best option? Thanks!

Which model? R-765, their entry-level 5.1 model is 13" deep.

Don't know of a current TEAC model with a depth < 15". If you have a model #, would appreciate it.

Any chance of being able to put the amp on it's side? It would be taller, but with an IR repeater or an RF remote, it won't matter if it's controlls are accessible.

It is an option, got bit of vertical to work with, but I'm worried about heat dissipation and reliability horror stories I've heard about in doing that (equipment on the side). This home is out there... 2.5 hr drive from the shop, so I want it as bulletproof as possible. Thanks though, may be one of the few options...

[Link: harmankardon.com]I did a avr530 in a 15" deep cabinet. ( I think it was the 530) another option may be doing a pre/pro combo.

The R 765 is a surprisingly decent sounding receiver for the money. It is limited on power but in a small system it will do nicely.

I know this will get flamed, but a Bose Lifestyle system will fit the bill nicely, all of the amplification is in the sub so no worries on heat dissipation, also the units connectors are sunken in the back so its depth is its actual depth with wires if you choose.

Some of the Sonys (Sonies?) I've seen in the field are pretty shallow - maybe check their website for specs?
