I know we all visit one or two sites now and then, and many of us have had a hand in web site development, but which ones are your favorite for ease of use?

If you were going to start a brand new web site that allowed for Q&A forums, but also allowed for thumbnails and maybe even video to be applied very easily, as well as any other simple features....

Whose web sites would you be looking to emulate?

Simple is better.

I personally did a web sire with Front Page about 5 years ago, and it was pretty simple to do a +/-50 page web site, but I imagine that a lot has changed. Not to mention that it was more of a [view for information] web site than a truly interactive web site.

What are your favorite interactive web sites?

my 2 cents
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

ceied is right, to much stuff is distracting, you need to be straight to the point. if people can't find what they need in a matter of seconds, they will move on to somewhere else, no movies, no flash, you have to design it to work well for the lowest common denominator (dial up). My biggest pet peeve is going to someones web site that isn't finished becaust they are trying to do to much with it and never get around to finishing it. just go to the CEDIA web site and do a search for dealers in your area, it's amazing how many companies in our industry have web addresses listed and when you click on them you are directed to the web hosting company because no one has even bothered to put a single page on there, what do you think prospective customers think about a high tech AV company that has a crappy web site that doesn't work?

frontpage is garbage. hire a pro. and not some kid offa craigslist. a real pro. make sure they use mysql, and optimize the php and databases. then make sure that they can template the design for you. that way you can just edit a couple xml files and redo the layout any time you want.

frontpage is the bose of the web design world and those that use it are like magnolia

Is there such a thing as good web site done with Front Page? Or is that sort of like searching for Big Foot ;-)?

Well what are you doing here?

That's al I'm asking is about friendly forum based web sites.... LIKE THIS ONE.

I'm not talking about a web site where the objective is to sell a product.

Jay, you can take a look at my web site, www.theaterworks.com. If you like it, the guy that did it for me worked for a reasonable cost (in my estimation), and is out of Chicago. While he doesn't likely need a Jet Rack and as a result probably won't do a barter deal with you, I can give you the name if you like.

Thanks Theater...

I already ave somebody I'm meeting with soon, and am just gathering information.

I do like the simplicity of your site, but I require the ability to respond, edit, post etc... not necessarily with passwords.

Why wouldn't a web designer need a Jet Rack?

There has to be somebody out there who has a pointer or two... Maybe a little bit of "If I had to do it a second time I would have done this"...

FYI - This has nothing to do with selling, technology, stress or tools... It's just a place to keep thoughts and Ideas... The simple ones....

Sounds like a Blog. Check out some of the different ones, like
http://www.engadget.com/.

If you want to learn to program a site look into Ruby, CSS, Pearl, PHP.
