anybody here that has used one of these CL-500 projectors has probabally noticed that you have to hold down the power on and power off buttons (1-2 seconds??) on the remote before the projector will accept the commands and change power states... I'm trying to control this projector with a Niles Intellicontrol --- which, of course, does not issue the command for long enough to affect the projector. Anybody have any bright ideas? thanks, Matt Webb [email protected]

Matt, In the Intellifile II software, go to Edit IR Library, find your saved power commands and open them (double click). In the Code Pattern box, check Adjust Repeat and check Burst Mode, then set the Number of Bursts. As you increase the number, you'll notice the Total Time for the command increase. You can Test you settings from here as well. Hope this helps, Scott

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain. |

Sorry I forgot to mention that --- this does not help the problem.. the Runco just won't react. However, if I learn the exact same code into a pronto (actually teach the Pronto from the Intellifile II), I can hold down the button on the Pronto and after a second the Runco will power up.
thanks, Matt

I have had alot of trouble with this projector myself. Actually I have had trouble with alot of Runco Fixed pixel projectors, am I the only one?? I am going to do a job here soon that I wanted to do the VX-5000c but now I am hessitant. Granted the CL-500 is a $6k projector and the VX-5000c is a $28k projector but I am just worried that it will have the same issues. Can any one else here give some feedback on Runco fixed pixel projectors.

Runco is an entirely sales motivated company that charges insane mark ups for little value added. They just bought Vidikron which should fit into their undependable service scheme very well. VX 101, the worst POS of all time. And Sam will give you promises of improvement but with great products like Sharp, Marantz, Faroudja ( Sam Runco's jealousy object) and JVC you have to be insane to trust Runco. I will never spec one again

Hey Mike, why the anger? If you've got some good feedback for Runco let's hear it. I have been a Runco dealer for several years. I love the people, they are experts on video, but I have to agree with Shoe et al. Their equipment is difficult to integrate and their prices are outrageous for OEM stuff. I only sell it to people who specifically ask for it anymore. I figure what the customer saves on the projector can go a long way to providing a better user interface and more careful calibration.

How hard can this be? |

Shoe is right on the money, although a little angry it seems. I installed for a Runco dealer for years, and it was great while all they did was CRTs. But as soon as DLPs & plasmas got in the mix, the trouble started. Tech support, which was now very necessary, was limited to whomever wasn't smart enough to avoid the phone call. While sitting in training out in Hayward, I heard the receptionist on the intercom asking for tech support to pick up line X many times, followed by "you get it", "no, you get it". They have a few guys who are very good, but are also very well shielded from the outside.
Runco - they're great, when they work.

Mike, unless you're Sam's relative or have a financial stake in Runco why the outburst. I 've had personal assurances that did not last 48 hours from the head man himself as far as service commitment goes. I will not call you names. I'm just an extremely disappointed and betrayed Runco dealer. BTW, we installed a CL500 last week and the runco projector ceiling mount came without any screws. This could happen with any manufacturer but so far it's only been Runco for me.

I used Runco almost always. I've realized that it is designed mainly around RS-232. Any of the projectors that I have done with 232 work fine. I have been looking for a IR solution check out [Link: appdig.com] It was recommend to me to create a sleep timer for a Master Bedroom System and it really works well. Another idea may be [Link: xantech.com] Both would be easy enough to incorp into your intellicontrol system. AND for those that forgot this is the installer lounge. MattWebb is an installer with the equipment already installed, looking for a solution from other installers. Not for opinions that will only affect his design for the next customer.

Matt, I have been there and when the Intellicontrol came out it was a good idea. Fact is that they are expensive when you add all of the necessary additional equipment when you can use a good remote and some engineering to achieve a more reliable solution.
