I was reading my latest Costco mailer and noticed they now offer Installation on their flat panels. Are we going to have to bid against them for the entire job? Is anyone here a Costco installer? If so I would like to know what training you have attended and who does your electrical work. Thanks

great now we have to compete against year old equipment and their "quaility" installers
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

The fine print is crazy. IT is just like Gateway's and BB's installs. Components six fit away. No electrial will be done, if they can not fish through the wall they will do a wire mold. Again..It is crazy. Customers who go this route definetly get what they pay for.

My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

RUN AWAY.... Costco installs are handled by an installation management company called Installs INC.

Installs INC is the same outfit that "manages" the BB, CC and some internet retailers installations. They take the work order and 50% of the money, contact the client, reinforce the BS that the sales drone told the customer "sure they will do the electrical, fish the walls, repair the drywall, install your bose system and wash your car for no additonal charge".

They are notorious for changing contract terms whenever they feel like upping their profit margin. I have seen them drop payment across the board twice in a year, regardless of the 12 month contract they had signed with the company doing the installations. They will also change criteria all the time, suddenly adding things like "starting now, wall fishing or wire mold is at no charge to the customer".

I got my feet wet in the HT business doing installations for a company that got the majority of their work from II. After seeing II kick the feet out from under a previous employer on more then one occasion, I will not touch anything associated with that company with a 10 foot pole.......

Despite the $350 price tag, we still get tons of calls from people who bought plasmas at Costco and want to pay us more to do a quality job. I will occasionally pick one up as a side job (with company permission), but as a company we don't touch em.
I am a trained professional..... Do not attempt this stunt at home.

Think about this....

$350.00 for hanging the PDP and running the cables (surface) to the equipment that MUST be within six feet.

Hmmmmm, who says crime doesn't pay?

I'm just waiting for the day when I can buy a skid of diapers and for an extra fee have someone change me a few times a day. I mean, my kid, ya, thats it, my kid.

And I've seen BB installs before, and it was SCARY. A 32 LCD on a corner ledge that would just barely be safe holding a 15". Wires ran along the ledge to a HOLE in the wall.
Gunga.....Gunga....GU-Lunga

And since Ernie won't keep count, I will. Hes up to 249, and counting.

I've been under the impression that most installers don't install customer-supplied gear, so this "shouldn't" matter. Am I wrong?

No they don't; they get even less.
