Hi All.
I am working on project and the designer has requested an audio system for the garden around the house which is very huge.

he wants zoning and stone type speakers which is no problem as we have all of those, then he requested no keypads in the garden, he wants all the components and keypads in the rack and want to use wireless remote control to control the system from any where in the garden.

if I installed the component in the middle they will be around 200 meter in each side.

has anyone have used a remote that can be used over this range ?

Can I use multiple points to cover this area ? what do you recommend.

I am looking for something small and can be carried around.

Help please

The Universal remotes have an RF system, The MRF-300 RF base station can handle up to 3 Antennas. There are several remotes to choose from to go with it
MX850, MX950

[Link: universalremote.com]

The RTI also has a RF system and can handle up to 10 Antennas, they also have a basic remote that is waterproof...The U1

ir is out of the question.....rf is an ok choice but i would do nevo sl hooked to a wifi network...done properly you could get 400 feet no problem possibly upto 1200 feet......

my laptop will hit 1500 feet at the marina to the ap's.......thankfully i did the network there so max for anyone is less than 200 feet at the farthest.....overlapping cell sites.

i can choose which access point via my cisco card that i connect to and i can see all 11 ap's from my boat......

but i digresss......

Thank you all for your replies.

In regards of control all I need is to choose zone source and volume very simple control.

If I go for the Wi Fi option and install access point to cover the area will this be ideal choice ?

RTI U1 waterproof RF remote [Link: rticorp.com] would be the ideal choice. I would not use any of the other remotes outside, as they would be prone to damage from a variety of sources. You could easily run cat-5 out some conduit to the middle of your area and install qty.3 RM 433 receiving modules [Link: rticorp.com], they should be OK if you goop them up really good with silicone. I know that out doors you should get at least 200 feet out of the RTI stuff line of sight with just 1 receiving module, so if you use 3, you should at least be able to cover the area in question.

I think the WiFi is going to be the best choice but no where near the cheapest. You will have to use outside WAPs as well as POE (Power over Ethernet) and both of those features dont come cheap. So dollar wise the RF is your best choice plus with the RTI you have the waterproof remote which is cheap in comparison.

actually you could use inside ap, and remote mount the antennas to the outside, this is very common. we do this all the time....

not for remote control but for internet access.....so same difference

waterproof remote is not a must, I need the remote to control 6 zones and be able to turn on and off each zone and control the sources, Nevo Sl seems to be nice and small enough.

Has anyone used it ?

Also can I use multiple Nevo Link to cover the area or I can just use access point ?

The combo with the Mx-850 and MRF-300 works great.

also try this idea on your design board.

Elan Vsc 100 volume controls with a CT processor from B&K or Elan.

Contact Eric Johnson at Universal, and mention this idea.
