Hi,
I just started my first job programming sonance equipment. I there any trick to downloading to the k2 keypad. I first tried my first laptop with a serial to usb adapter & tried switching comports & had no luck. Then I tried my 2nd older laptop with a serial port & same results. Any suggestions would be helpful. Also I just got the IR learner for this system anyone have any feedback back on using it I haven't tried it yet.
thanx,
matt

I hope you can get your money back for the IR learner. The K2 can learn IR directly when connected to a computer...which is to say you have to solve your other problem. Sorry, but no clue on that one.

You've got mail: the Sonance pdf explaining how to learn with the K2. Free. From the Sonance web site. Downloaded it today for a beginner.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Hey Genius.

Got the keypad connected to a block and PS??

Port right?

Some usb to serial don't work with the K2. My Belkin wouldn't.

Ernie is correct about the learner, you can learn via the keypad although i did read in documentation that you cant. You have to put the keypad into learning mode to do it.
In my recent experience though it is a bitch to learn into. Possible that the learner is better.
Only suggestion i can make about the downloading is to make sure the sonance software knows which comport you are using. Apart from that i cant help.

Simon.

took me awhile to realize the K2 had to be connected to a power supply. The iogear GS232 USB to serial worked for me.

If you bought the IR learner module.... KEEP IT and don't send it back! I use the RTI version (should be the same thing though)... and it is MUCH MUCH MUCH easier than using the K2 sensor to learn. First, it is not nearly as finnicky/sensitive, etc... AND, its always ready in my laptop bag for learning a code from any remote into my library.... which also works with RTI remote controls, and other things.

As for the USB-Serial thing.. we've all been down that path. I just lost my adaptor (which was working great) ... and when I bought a new one, I had to wrestle with it (well, I got my "PC" guy to do it actually).. to get the right driver etc etc etc.

On our laptop, which has 2 USB ports on the side, only 1 of them works as a com port (probably just a setup issue in the computer).
...couple a thumb tacks and a stick of double sided tape should hold this baby up...
