I have a volume control to be mounted outside. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good outdoor enclosure (single gang) to place the vc in. I would prefer to have one with a clear front to allow IR, but most importantly it needs to be able to withstand the weather (midwest). Any ideas?

Any security system distributor will have clear plastic enclosures for keypads that could be used for VC. Looking through some of the catalogs I got at CEDIA, I think I remember seeing one for VC. You might check with Audioplex.

Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want. Any wire cut to length will be too short. I must be a near GENIUS. All my teachers told me I was at the very PEAK of the bell curve! |

carlon has a cover(1gang and 2 gang) that I have used many times over the years and so far no issues.

Good find from dpva59.
I've used a lot of Arlington products, the LV-1 and LV-2, but this stuff is killer for a guy who does outdoor zones.

Niles, Xantech, Russound, Jamo and I'm sure I missed a few. They make weatherproof volume controls. Xantech has clear weatherproof covers in single and double gang.

Niles is good, but keep in mind that IR may be finicky at best competing with sunlight. If you don't find a good enough or cheap enough clear, then it may not be too big a deal to have an opaque over, if any. The niles is entirely weatherproof without a cover, but isn't IR to the best of my knowledge. (I'm probably wrong...)
