After searching and researching on various websites, I couldn't figure out the best wall switch to use. So, I posted a thread in the X-10 forum and it has not gotten many views... After getting to know these forums better, I realize this thread should have been posted here. You guys in this forum have been very helpful to me over the past week. I would appreciate it if some of you guys would check it out.

The thread is regarding installing new wall switches in my house that will work with the OmniLT I am installing. Here is a link to the thread. Thank you in advance...

If we follow your link and answer over there, this post will sink lower and lower on the list, and your answers will stop.

If we post answers here, nobody will know what the question was. So, here is what you asked in the other thread. This way people can read it here and then answer it here, which will keep it near the top of the forum.

What is the best switch to use to control lights remotely? I will also be
installing a OmniLT in the near future and would like the switches to
work with it. After doing some research it seems Insteon is the way
to go, but would just like to get some opinions before I start buying.
Thanks in advance...

My first response is INFO INFO INFO

What is an OmniLT? Switches to work with it? Why wouldn't they? What does it need a switch to do other than turn on and off, which is what a switch does? Do you need some other device that goes into a switchbox, is that it?
For that matter, what is Insteon?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ernie - Thank you for your help with the thread. Now here is what I am tring to do...

I am installing a HAI OmniLT for security and automation. I would like to replace my wall switches with switches that can be controlled by the system and possibly by my Pronto TSU7000. I also have the IR543 to control X-10 with the pronto. Would like to try to use it to control some of the switches. As far as lights I am trying to control... I would like my front outside light on a dusk/dawn schedule and my back light (and possibly a side light I want to add.) on motion sensors. Inside I would like the lights to turn off when I arm my alarm and possibly set various on/off times if im away. From what I have read the OmniLT is capable of this, but I am not sure which switches will work best with it. These switches don't seem to be cheap, so I want to be sure I get the right ones. Hopes this give you a little more insight as to what I am trying to do. Thanks again for your help.

JRock,
I have worked with Lightolier Compose and Radio RA. I prefer Radio RA and now use it exclusively due to the issues in reliability/scalability with PLC devises (Compose.) Although I have never intergraded HAI with RA, I do see that it is available.. Probably via RS232 on Cronos, which would be redundant since the II, LT or ProII would be the time clock, or the RS232 add on module.

Radio RA is the recommended choice for the HAI systems. Talk to AVAD about getting the switches through them.

How about using HAI's switches? They have their own line of switches and scene controllers made to go with their Omni panels. Whatever you end up with, I'd stay away from x10 if you can......

Thanks for your replies... I checked out the Radio RA switches and I think thats what im gonna go with. They seem good and I like the way they look. I saw on Lutrons site that there is an available IR module for them. Does anyone know if my IR543 would work with them?

Bluecube - I dont really like the way the HAI switches look, plus they seem rather expensive.

Thanks again...

No the ir543 is an x10 piece not radioRA. The hai switches seem rather expensive?? Did you check the price of RadioRA. Yes it is one of the best lighting control systems available.. But if your affraid of rather expensive you should probably look elsewhere.. :)

Thanks for you reply... Actually, I havn't seen any prices on the Radio RAs yet. I saw the switches on Lutrons site, but havn't found any retail sites for them yet. I am not too concerned about the cost, since I plan on doing the transition over time. I guess I just didn't like the HAI switch for the money. The Lutron switches have a more elegant apprearance to me.

Wow... I just found a retail site for the Radio RAs... about $200+ a pop... I guess the HAI switches are quite a bargain!

My vote is for Lightolier switches. I've used them with HAI panels and they work fine. I didn't use the lightolier firewall panel either. I installed a leviton coupler on the electrical panels to "couple" both legs of the electrical system together.

UPB and X10 are both power line controls aren't they? The difference being the protocol?

Are the Leviton 6343 1000w Dimmer switched any good? and will they work well with the OmniLT? Reason I ask is because they are on clearance 5 for $100...
