I am working with an existing system done by a company that does a crappy job. Anyway the situation is this: The customer has a Marantz projector on some kind of drop down lift. The drop down lift is triggured by an anthem preamp trigger out. when it turns on the the lift drops , and when it turns off the lift raises. So here is the problem when the lift goes up it kills power to the projector and it is a dlp projector and the fan needs to run for like a minute or two after the projector shuts off but right now it just shuts off. I can put a long delay in the marantz rc9200 but that is very clunky way of doing this. Is there something that can have a delay trigger allowing the marantz to cool off before the lift shuts. Any help would be great.

Try this. [Link: elkproducts.com] Quick, small, easy to program, and will get you done and out of the job in a hurry. We use them to hold gate electric strike latches open so the client doesn't need to hold the button, but it would work well here too.

You could modify the wiring of the receptacle so that it is not switched, but always on. then put in a remote controllable switch... X-10, Crestron, Lutron, whatever product you currently use and compatible with the control system you have installed.

In any event I'm not sure that hard powering off the projector is really the best method of approaching lift mounted projectors. The cool down process is there for a reason, and it is best to leave it up to the projector to determine when it is ready to turn off, rather than hard powering it off, not to mention possible issues with power supply life. If all else fails, there's always the Clapper.

ROFLMAO!!!!!

... back to the question at hand.

Why does the lift cut the power to the projector?

Is there no control of the projector, directly?

Does the projector have a 12v trigger built in? (I know some of the newer ones do)

As of late I've been setting up delays to all my projector installs. If your using some kind of touch screen remote, just put a page that says please wait while the projector cools down. Set it to shut down the entire system, then lock the remote till cooling is complete (stop watch comes in handy for timing the fans). Set the delay for as long as you need it to properly cool. Explain to the customer that this is necessary for a longer bulb life (follow by how much a new bulb costs).

Andy
