I'm shopping for a new laptop.

I would like to have a built in DB9 connection.

What's everyone using?

Any programmers out there for MX remotes, ELAN, Niles?

Any input would be appreciated.

Dell 610. Got mine used on ebay for a good buy. Use it for MX, Pronto, Xantech, Sonance K2.

Dell. PC Card to DB9. You have to get the expensive Dell to get the DB9 built in.

I ended up using the Keyspan USB to serial. Works for all the forementioned remotes.

Dell 5150 didn't have serial. Its about 2 years old now.

I haven't used this, but was looking at it since it also has WUXGA display (i prefer the small dot pitch). I think most all of their higher end laptops with 17" displays have serial ports too. I don't find 17" that portable, though, and will be travelling a lot in the near future, so am looking for a 15.4" or smaller w/ WUXGA. HP is the other vendor that currently has this solution, but w/o the serial port.

Dell Lattitude series, I got a D600. Built in wireless, fast, CD/R, DVD/Rom.

I program everything with it. I think it was $800 with the super warranty a year ago. Very affordable, great for an installer or programmer. Has been a great laptop until I loaded HP printer software on it!

I think the whole Lattitude series has DB-9's. Good luck.

A friend of mine just came home with a new HP widescreen laptop (supplied by his job) that was really cool looking and had a DB9. He told me the model, but I've forgotten it. I will call him and post it when I get the chance.

We use Toshibas, with a Keyspan Serial adapter. No problems with Prontos, HTM, Elan and Niles.
