I have a Denon 2900 and a Xantech IR setup. If I wire the IR directly into the IR input on the Denon, it works but has 2 problems.

1. Sometimes it does commands twice, this may be because of the IR hitting the actual IR sensor on the front occasionally, or just overload or something. Not sure.

2. Bigger problem is that the player will freeze up if I leave it on and in a stopped mode for a while. Say, play a music disc and let the machine do nothing for a few minutes when the disc is done. The only fix is to turn off main power or unplug. Even the buttons on the player stop working. (actually, I haven't tried fixing by unplugging the IR, that could work since it is the cause)

Anybody seen anything like this before? My other component that can be wired directly is my Onkyo receiver and it works just fine. (all the others require emitters) I've tried wiring the 2900 directly from the Xantech block or from the Onkyo's output, both cause this problem. I can probably get by with an emitter on the front of the 2900, but if there's a fix, I'd prefer it. Too many emitters everywhere already, and I like the clean face on this player.

If it is overload then place a 480ohm resistor between both wires and this will correct the problem.
No job to small, many to big

How do I tell if this is the problem? Any way besides trying the resistors?

You suggested it already... Try removing the IR from the back, and use an emitter on the front. If the problem goes away, there's your problem!
